Description
The PMC Twenty5 24i Speaker is the largest floor stander in the range and will deliver a compelling lifelike performance. The i stands for improved and the sound has been improved with new technologies. The woofer is a long-throw 170mm unit with a g-weave glass-fibre cone. Additionally, the tweeter is a 19mm ferrofluid-cooled unit with a fabric soft dome. lastly, the maximum power handling is 200 watts and the frequency range is wide at 27Hz to 27 kHz.
Advanced Transmission Line system bass enhancement
The remarkably low-frequency response, down to 27Hz, is achieved by the PMC-designed Advanced Transmission Line bass port. The PMC Twenty5 24i Speaker features a tunnel that directs the sound from the rear of the bass driver to the outside via a Laminair port. The tunnel is lined with acoustic material that absorbs all but ultra-low frequencies. This makes the bass less dependent on the volume of the sound.
Laminair airflow port
The PMC Twenty5 24i Speakers have a bass port known as Laminair. The design is inspired by a Formula One aerodynamic vent and boosts bass by reducing turbulence and drag. As a result air noise is reduced. This produces powerful bass with remarkable timing and good dynamic range.
PMC-designed Bass / mid-range drivers
The PMC Twenty5 24i Speaker uses PMC-designed drivers. The bass/midrange features a long-throw g-weave cone with a cast iron chassis. The driver delivers an ultra-vivid midrange clarity. The g-weave material is made of resin-bonded fibreglass that has a fine weave. The result is a cone with great strength and an uncoloured sound. Finally, the motor and magnet system has been redesigned and now has 80% more power handling.
Ferrofluid-cooled soft dome tweeter
The tweeter used by the PMC Twenty5 24i Speaker is a 19mm ferrofluid-cooled unit. This is based on the renowned tweeter from the Twenty series. Ferrofluid improves the dissipation of heat and provides a larger power-handling capability. Moreover, the tweeter is surrounded by a waveguide that improves high-frequency dispersion.
High-quality crossover
Speakers that have more than one driver, such as the PMC Twenty5 24i need a crossover to split the audio band. Additionally, it needs to provide a flat frequency response with no peaks and troughs. The crossover, in this case, is designed to split the audio into two. A high pass filter is created using inductors and capacitors. Extensive computer modelling and listening tests are then used to tweak the component values. Next, for a long life, military-grade PCBs are used to mount the best quality components. The capacitors are the best quality to prevent the value from drifting with temperature or time.
The cabinet design
The PMC Twenty5 24i Speaker features a cabinet that slopes backwards. This is done so that the tweeter is slightly further away from the listener. As a result, the phase between the drivers is more accurate for a smoother sound. The cabinet was also designed using accelerometers to measure the effect of different isolation and damping materials. In this way, the size of the cabinet was optimized. Lastly, the spiked feet can be adjusted from the top.
This combines perfectly with the PMC Twenty5 subwoofer and is also the perfect accompaniment to the PMC Twenty5 Centre Speaker suitable for any room.
