Description
The PMC Twenty5 Ci Centre Speaker is designed to be used for the dialogue channel in surround sound systems and complements the rest of the Twenty5 range. The speaker has a wide and even dispersion allowing it to be placed in either a high or low position. Hear the full potential of a movie soundtrack with clear and compelling dialogue.
Notably, the i stands for improved and the PMC Twenty5 Ci Centre Speaker features new technologies such as the Advanced transmission line bass ports. Next, there are two 140mm bass/midrange drivers on either side of the 19mm ferrofluid-cooled tweeter. Lastly, the power handling is good at 200 watts.
PMC-designed Bass / mid-range drivers
The two bass/midrange units of the PMC Twenty5 Ci Centre Speaker are 140mm units with a long throw g-weave cone and a cast alloy chassis. This delivers an ultra-vivid soundscape in the all-important vocal range. g-weave is made of resin-bonded fibre-glass with a fine weave.
As a result, it is stronger than paper and adds no colouration to the sound. Lastly, the motor and magnet assembly have been upgraded and now have 80% more power-handling capability.
Ferrofluid-cooled soft dome tweeter
A feature of the Twenty5 range including the PMC Twenty5 Ci Centre Speaker is the ferrofluid-cooled tweeter. The tweeter is inspired by the renowned tweeter in the Twenty series and has a soft dome. Notably, ferrofluid acts as a coolant improving the heat dissipation and power handling.
Additionally, the tweeter features a surrounding waveguide that aids with high-frequency dispersion.
Advanced Transmission Line system bass enhancement
To either side of the woofers are two Laminair bass ports. These give the PMC Twenty5 Ci Centre Speaker a remarkable low-frequency response, down to 45hz. This is achieved by using an Advanced Transmission Line bass port system. A tunnel is created from the back of the woofers to the outside.
This is lined with acoustic material that absorbs all but the lowest frequencies. As a result, the bass is less dependent on the volume of the sound.
Laminair airflow port
The PMC Twenty5 Ci Centre Speaker has a bass port grille known as Laminair. The grille design is similar to the aerodynamic bass port used in Formula One cars. As a result, the bass is boosted without creating any air turbulence and drag. This means that there is less air noise and the bass has remarkable timing and a good dynamic range.
A quality military-grade crossover
Another important feature of multi-driver speakers is the crossover. The crossover in the PMC Twenty5 Ci Centre Speaker is designed to split the audio spectrum into bands. In this way, the correct frequency range is fed to each driver. The crossover also needs to provide a flat frequency response overall.
Notably, capacitors and inductors are used to form a high-pass filter. Comprehensive computer modelling and listening tests were used to tweak the component values. Next, the PBCs used are military grade with wider than usual tracks. This reduces the resistance and boosts the current carrying capacity.
About home cinema systems
The PMC Twenty5 range of speakers can also be used to create a top-of-the-line home cinema system. That is why the PMC Twenty5 Ci Centre Speaker was developed. There is also a subwoofer in the range. The centre speaker is primarily used for dialogue. However, it can also be used for effects so a wide frequency range is essential.
The simplest surround sound system only needs five speakers and a subwoofer. This is known as the 5.1 system. There is a front left and right set of speakers along with two for the rear surround. There is also a centre speaker and a subwoofer.
This combines perfectly with the PMC Twenty5 subwoofer and are also the perfect accompaniment for any setup of the PMC Twenty5 speakers to make anything from a 2.1 speaker system to 5.1.
