Description

The Yamaha YH5000SE Headphones are the flagship of the range. They feature planar magnetic drivers. Moreover, the advanced Orthodynamic drivers have several features that provide a stunning overall sound. The earcups are made of metal and are open-backed.

Two high-quality braided cables are included and one has a 4.4mm balanced connector. There are two sets of leather earpads provided. Moreover, a metal display stand is supplied. The stand will keep the headphones safe. Lastly, The frequency response is 5Hz to 70 kHz

Planar magnetic driver

An advanced Orthodynamic, planar magnetic driver is used by the Yamaha YH5000SE Headphones. This uses a thin film diaphragm along with metal coil patterning. As a result, the sound is smooth with no degradation. Moreover, there is no fixed central structure, which allows the membrane to move freely, for an authentic, ultra-responsive, and warm sound.

Large housing for low resonance sound

The Yamaha YH5000SE Headphones feature a large housing that lets the drivers breathe. The open-back design creates a good airflow and there are no sound reflections that can create resonance. Another innovation is the stainless steel filter that sits inside the housing. This is designed to control the attack and decay of the music. Consequently, reproduction is extremely realistic.

High-end cables provided

Two cables come with the Yamaha YH5000SE Headphones. One has a 3.5mm plug on one end. The other end plugs into the headphone's earcups. The next lead is a balanced type that has a 4.4mm balanced connector fitted.

Both cables are made of OFC copper that is silver-plated. The cables are also braided. This avoids any parallel alignment of independent signals. As a result channel separation and balance are maintained.

About headphone connectors

Historically headphone connectors were 6.3mm (1/4”) in size. This size of connector is still found on some amplifiers. It was known as a “phone” plug as they were mostly used in telephone exchanges. Next came the 3.5mm type.

These have three conductors one for each channel and a ground lead. This is the type most commonly used nowadays for mobile devices and amplifiers, However, there are also balanced types.

Balanced headphone leads

Balanced headphones such as the Yamaha YH5000SE Headphones also come with a balanced connecting lead. These are designed to reduce noise pickup and interference. Balanced leads work by having five conductors instead of three. There is a “hot” pair and a “cold” pair, as well as a common ground.

The signal in each pair of wires is of the opposite phase. As a result, when the signals are recombined at the headphones, any noise is canceled out. This is similar to 2-2 equalling zero. Notably, balanced headphones require a balanced headphone amplifier to work correctly

Headphone amplifiers

Balanced headphones need a custom-designed headphone amplifier. Yamaha has a suitable amplifier that has XLR and Balanced 4.4mm outputs as well as the standard 6.3mm socket. The Yamaha amplifier uses a floating design that avoids any ground noise. It also has toroidal transformers and an innovative L-shaped case design.
