Description
The Yamaha R-N800A Network Receiver can connect to a wide range of sources. Notably, it is an all-in-one unit that can stream audio from popular providers such as Spotify. However, it can also be used with a turntable and has a built-in DAB radio.
The powerful built-in amplifiers mean you only need speakers for a full system. Moreover, this model features Yamaha's parametric room acoustic optimizer. This system used a microphone to monitor the sound in the room and adjust the sound automatically. The amplifier output power is 140 watts per channel into 8 Ohms.
Sixty years of Yamaha experience
Yamaha has been producing audio equipment for sixty years and uses a design concept known as ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology). The R-N800A Network Receiver uses the shortest signal path to deliver sonic purity.
Also, the chassis is a low-vibration design that has a special resin frame that absorbs interference and vibration. As a result, the sound has a sonic purity and dynamism that is peculiar to Yamaha.
Versatile connectivity
The Yamaha R-N800A Network Receiver has a wide range of inputs and connectivity. Firstly, there are four analogue line-level inputs that include a built-in phono preamp. Additionally, there are two optical and two coaxial digital inputs.
Next, the USB socket allows local file playback, you can also connect a PC. Bluetooth is built in allowing streaming from mobile devices such as Smartphones and tablets. Network connectivity is via WIFI or a wired Ethernet connector. Lastly, there is a subwoofer output and a headphone socket.
High-quality ESS Sabre DAC chip
A quality, Sabre ES9080Q 384kHz 32-bit, high-end DAC chip, from ESS, is used by the Yamaha R-N800A Network Receiver. This I.C. has an excellent signal-to-noise ratio and works with Yamaha's network module to give the best possible sound from all HD digital sources. All of the musical detail is preserved.
Also, Yamaha has a Pure Direct system that switches out all of the tone control circuitry for pure sound. Lastly, there is a very precise onboard clock that reduces jitter.
Streaming and streaming services
Most modern audio systems can stream music from various online providers, such as Spotify and Amazon Music HD. Additionally, there are providers that steam lossless audio. Streaming services are usually accessed via a Smartphone or PC app, and connect to the Yamaha R-N800A Network Receiver via Bluetooth. You can also connect to your local network via WIFI or wired Ethernet.
DAB/ DAB+ tuner
The Yamaha R-N800A Network Receiver has a built-in DAB/DAB+ receiver along with analogue FM. DAB tuning is automatic and you can store up to 40 pre-set stations. DAB began in the 1990s and stands for Digital Audio Broadcasting.
It is intended to replace analogue FM eventually. However, the only country to shut down analogue FM so far is Norway. FM broadcasting in the UK will continue until at least 2030.
YPAO room compensation
Domestic rooms are not ideal for audio listening, as walls and soft furnishings can cause dips and peaks in the frequency response. As a result, Yamaha developed an automatic calibration system named the Yamaha Parametric Room Optimization system.
This was developed for their home cinema systems but is also built into the R-N800A Network Receiver. The system uses a microphone to monitor the sound in the room. This is paired with a very precise equalizer that actively adjusts the sound for the best possible results.
Phono preamp
The built-in phono preamp used by the Yamaha R-N800A Network Receiver is suitable for moving magnet cartridges. Notably moving coil cartridges have a much lower output at less than 1mV. However, there are enough spare analogue inputs to use a separate phono preamp.
