Description
The Wharfedale EVO 5.1 Speakers (Pair) set a fresh benchmark in compact high-fidelity audio, delivering performance that defies their size and price point. As the smallest model in the new EVO 5 Series, the 5.1s are engineered with the same attention to detail and acoustic excellence as their larger siblings.
Designed to replace the highly successful EVO 4.1, these bookshelf speakers feature a completely reimagined cabinet structure, enhanced drive units, and a stylish contemporary finish. Whether used as part of a stereo setup or integrated into a home cinema system, the EVO 5.1 offers precision, dynamics, and rich musicality in a compact, room-friendly form factor.
High-Frequency Clarity with Advanced AMT Technology
At the heart of the Wharfedale EVO 5.1’s extraordinary sound is its updated AMT (Air Motion Transformer) tweeter – a hallmark of the EVO Series’ high-end aspirations. This cutting-edge high-frequency driver uses a pleated diaphragm to move air more efficiently than traditional dome tweeters, offering significantly lower distortion and an ultra-fast transient response.
In the EVO 5.1, this unit has been enlarged to 35x70mm for increased efficiency and wider dispersion. The result is pristine, extended treble with excellent horizontal spread, ensuring clarity and detail even off-axis, perfect for smaller listening spaces or varied seating positions.
Internal Innovations: SilentWeave™ and ResoFrame™
Wharfedale’s proprietary SilentWeave™ material, a cotton-felt hybrid, has been placed behind the AMT diaphragm to reduce internal reflections and colouration. This contributes to a purer treble response and a smoother listening experience. Additionally, the ResoFrame™ – an elastomer-based damping structure visible within the speaker’s front baffle – provides resonance control for the drive units.
On the AMT, this includes a supplementary damping gasket that targets and smooths resonances in the lower treble band. These integrated design elements ensure the EVO 5.1 delivers a clean, controlled high-frequency presentation without the fatigue often associated with lesser designs.
Refined Mid/Bass Driver and ResoSeal™ Damping
Unlike the larger three-way EVO 5 models, the EVO 5.1 features a two-way configuration with a 130mm woven Kevlar mid/bass cone. Kevlar’s inherent strength and lightness make it ideal for reproducing both tight bass and a clear, open lower midrange. Enhanced by Wharfedale’s ResoSeal™ – a low-mass elastomer ring at the cone’s rear – the driver benefits from reduced resonance and increased vocal clarity.
The result is deeper, tighter bass response and vocals that are warm, articulate, and emotionally engaging. This combination allows the EVO 5.1 to deliver a full-bodied sound that belies its modest footprint.
SLPP Port System: Big Bass from a Compact Speaker
To support its rich low-end performance, the EVO 5.1 incorporates Wharfedale’s signature SLPP (Slot Loaded Profiled Port) bass reflex system. Instead of a conventional rear port, the SLPP disperses air through a downward-firing slot integrated into the speaker’s hybrid metal/wood plinth.
This tri-directional venting – to the sides and rear – reduces turbulence, enhances airflow, and creates a deeper, more articulate bass response, all while minimising room placement issues. As a result, the EVO 5.1 can be positioned close to walls or on bookshelves without compromising performance, making it a versatile option for any room.
Elegant Craftsmanship, Timeless Design
Visually, the Wharfedale EVO 5.1 Speakers (Pair) exude modern elegance with craftsmanship that complements their acoustic finesse. The cabinet has been upsized compared to its EVO 4.1 predecessor, increasing internal volume for enhanced bass depth. Constructed from multi-layered, resonance-resistant wood, the enclosure is engineered to suppress unwanted vibration and ensure sonic purity.
Finished in a selection of premium veneers and smooth matt finishes – including Walnut, Black, White, and the all-new Lunar Grey, the EVO 5.1 adds aesthetic sophistication to any space. These compact loudspeakers are as stylish as they are sonically accomplished, blending seamlessly into both contemporary and classic interiors.
