Description
The TEAC UD-507 DAC Pre and Headphone Amplifier is a top-of-the-line amplifier that prioritizes musicality. The 'TRDD 5' discrete DAC creates a clear soundstage with accurate imaging. Moreover, there are three separate headphone output options and the unit is fully balanced throughout. Bluetooth is available and there is a good range of digital as well as analogue inputs. MQA is supported as well as upsampling. Lastly, the unit is compact and is good for both desktop and traditional stereo setups.
Proprietary TEAC reference DAC.
The highly musical TEAC DAC in the TEAC UD-507 DAC Pre and Headphone Amplifier processes audio at 64-bit/512Fs. Notably, the delta-sigma modulator uses a TEAC algorithm to process the signal. A later stage uses 16 separate elements per channel and a low pass filter to achieve a very accurate output. DSD signals are processed directly while PCM signals can be converted to a 1-bit signal. The signal processing type can be selected between 1 bit or a multi-bit output.
External clock option for jitter-free performance
Notably, PC audio can be played back via USB on this unit. Moreover, the noisy PC clock can be overridden by the internal clock of the TEAC UD-507 DAC Pre and Headphone Amplifier. This asynchronous transfer method can be clocked at 44.1kHz or 48kHz depending on the signal. There is also an external 10 MHz clock option for even more accurate transfer. A stable clock signal minimizes the jitter that can make the sound muddy or noisy.
Dual Monaural Construction
A dual mono construction method is used by the TEAC UD-507 DAC Pre and Headphone Amplifier. Moreover, the D/A convertor is kept separate from the analogue sections. This ensures good channel separation and creates a spacious three-dimensional sound stage. Next, this is a fully balanced design that reduces noise and expands the dynamic range.
Advanced low-noise PSU
The power supply in the TEAC UD-507 DAC Pre and Headphone Amplifier has separate transformers for the analogue and digital sections. Each toroidal transformer feeds a high-quality, no-feedback circuit that prevents mutual interference and delivers a clean output.
Good connectivity
There is a good range of inputs available with the TEAC UD-507 DAC Pre and Headphone Amplifier. Firstly there is an optical as well as coaxial digital input. Additionally, there is a USB input. Next, there are two analogue inputs and an RCA pair along with an XLR pair. As well as the front-mounted headphone outputs there are both RCA and XLR outputs. Finally, the accurate volume control maintains good channel balance and has fine volume increments of 0.5 dB.
Balanced headphone amplifier with a very low noise floor
The TEAC UD-507 DAC Pre and Headphone Amplifier is fitted with a headphone amplifier that has two diamond buffer stages per channel. This allows the use of balanced headphones that have a positive and negative circuit on each side. High-impedance headphones can be driven and the 0V line is always fixed. This ensures very low noise and suppresses any hum from the PSU. As a result, even the fine detail in the music can be heard.
MQA included
A full MQA decoder is installed. MQA stands for Master Quality Assured and the sound is designed to be as close to the master recording as possible. The TEAC UD-507 DAC Pre and Headphone Amplifier has a DAC that is capable of getting the most from MQA. There is also an upsampling function that generates frequencies above 20kHz from 44.1khz signals. Lastly, the Bluetooth receiver supports the latest HD audio standards.
Teac HR Audio Player
The Teac HR Audio Player is a software package that runs on PC and Mac and can send hi-res audio via a USB cable. 22.5MHz DSD and 384kHz/32bit PCM can be played. These are next-generation codecs for the best possible audio quality. The TEAC UD-507 DAC Pre and Headphone Amplifier will show up as a device and the transfer is reliable.
