Description
The System Audio Signature 8 Subwoofer is compact but has an advanced design. The unit is designed to go with the Signature Bookshelf or floor-standing speakers to create a stunning system. Two opposing 8” drivers are driven from a 600-watt Class D amplifier.
This provides plenty of power while maintaining good control. For easy setup, there is a crossover control as well as a phase and volume control. Lastly, there is a line-level input for connecting to amplifiers and AV receivers with a subwoofer output.
Two 8” drivers
Two opposing 8” drivers are a feature of the System Audio Signature 8 Subwoofer. The Vulcano drivers are placed on opposite sides of the cabinet, this has the effect of reducing vibration. Subwoofers can sound boomy with other sounds being drowned out.
However, the System Audio Signature 8 Subwoofer is different. The Powerful power supply provides good control and dynamics. Moreover, the motor system is larger than in most subwoofers. This creates a more precise and controlled sound.
Powerful 600-watt Class D amplifier
The System Audio Signature 8 Subwoofer features a powerful 600-watt Class D amplifier that drives both woofer units. Moreover, the digital signal processor in this unit boosts the bass at low volumes. As a result deep bass is always present.
Class D is a digital system that has an efficiency of up to 90%. Class D is often used in enclosed spaces as it generates less heat and uses less power than traditional Class A/B units. This unit has a line-level input and should be connected to the subwoofer output of an amplifier or AV receiver.
Setting up the System Audio Signature 8 Subwoofer
As with most subwoofers, some setting up is required. Firstly, there is the crossover frequency. This can be set between 25Hz and 100Hz. Notably, the crossover frequency is determined by your main speakers. For example, bookshelf speakers do not go as low in bass as floor standers and will need a higher crossover frequency.
Next is the phase setting, this has to match your main speaker’s phasing. The phase can be set by ear, if it is wrong the bass will be reduced. Lastly, the volume control should be set at normal listening levels so that the subwoofer sounds natural and does not overpower the rest of the frequency range.
