Description
The SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacle Speakers are the flagship model in the range. They feature four 8” woofers and a frequency response down to 24Hz. These large floor standers have a curved baffle that optimizes the phase alignment of the drivers.
Alongside this, the central tweeter, with the other drivers above and below, creates a single point source effect. Next, two sets of opposing woofers deliver stunning bass. Lastly, the maximum power handling is 300 Watts.
Curved front baffle for optimized timing
The curved front baffle of the SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacle Speakers aligns all of the drivers so that the sound from each reaches your ears simultaneously. As a result, the phase coherence is optimized and the sound is convincing and immersive.
Also, imaging is more accurate. The layout of the drivers has the woofers and midrange unit above and below the tweeters, this creates a single point source effect.
Aluminium domed tweeters for low-distortion highs
The SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacle Speaker's tweeters are made using vapour deposition. A very fine layer of diamond carbon is deposited on the aluminium dome. This improves the rigidity and acoustic properties. As a result, the frequency response is set well above human hearing.
High frequencies are delivered with airy and effortless aplomb. Another advantage of the diamond coating is the extended low-frequency response. This makes for better integration with the midrange unit. Lastly, the lattice tweeter diffuser has the effect of widening the dispersion of high frequencies.
Quad woofers for stunning bass
Two sets of opposing woofers are a feature of the SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacle Speakers. These are placed at the top and bottom of the tweeters. This optimizes the bass and minimizes the effect of room modes. The bass is evenly spread in the listening area with no dead spots.
The dual woofer configuration also reduces colouration and resonances for pure low-distortion bass. Lastly, the two midrange units create stunning dynamics in the all-important vocal range.
Superb cabinet and crossover design
The elegant cabinet of the SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacle Speakers features tuned internal chambers that isolate the woofers and midrange drivers. The result is a reduction in resonances. The sound is clean and pure.
The crossover uses premium components that blend the sound from the drivers into a seamless whole. Lastly, the drivers feature Precision-cast aluminium-alloy baskets, this ensures precise alignment of the driver components.
Crossover design
As the SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacle Speakers are a three-way design the crossover is critical to obtaining a flat frequency response. The crossover splits the audio spectrum into bands for feeding to each driver. This is done by creating a set of filters that are made up of capacitors and inductors.
Nowadays they are usually modelled on a computer so that the crossover frequency is optimised. The quality of the components used is also important for accuracy and long life. The capacitors used are polypropylene types that do not drift in value over time or go leaky.
