Description

The Rothwell Audio MCX Moving Coil Step Up Transformer is designed to raise the output of higher output moving coil cartridges to a level suitable for moving magnet phonostages. It uses the same high-quality Lundahl cores found in the MCL transformer but features a lower turns ratio to accommodate cartridges with stronger outputs.

This makes the MCX ideal for modern moving coil cartridges producing signals in the range of 0.6mV to 0.9mV. Audiophiles using cartridges from manufacturers such as Benz Micro, Clearaudio, Lyra, Koetsu, Ortofon, and Audio Technica will find the MCX particularly suited to their systems.

By providing precise step-up functionality, the MCX ensures that the delicate dynamics and musical nuances of these higher-output moving coil cartridges are preserved and accurately conveyed through a compatible phonostage.

Precision Engineering and Performance

The MCX transformer delivers extremely wide bandwidth and very low distortion to ensure accurate and natural sound reproduction. Carefully designed primary and secondary loading networks optimise performance, delivering clean and detailed transients without ringing.

Multiple primary and secondary windings are employed to cancel hum from external sources while minimising inter-winding capacitance. These features combine to preserve signal integrity and maintain transparency across the audio spectrum.

The meticulous design and high-quality materials allow the MCX to reproduce subtle details and dynamic nuances, providing a musical and engaging listening experience. By maintaining a precise signal path and minimising interference, this transformer ensures that the original character and timbre of the cartridge are faithfully conveyed to the listening system.

Build Quality and Longevity

Constructed using premium materials and advanced winding techniques, the Rothwell Audio MCX Moving Coil Step Up Transformer provides exceptional reliability and long-term performance. The carefully selected cores from Lundahl of Sweden contribute to its wide bandwidth and high fidelity while ensuring minimal coloration of the audio signal.

The robust design ensures minimal susceptibility to external magnetic fields and interference, making it suitable for high-end vinyl systems. Compact yet sturdy, the MCX is engineered for audiophiles seeking a no-compromise solution for higher output moving coil cartridges.

Its precision construction, combined with proprietary loading networks and exceptional attention to detail, makes the MCX an essential component for achieving transparent, detailed, and musically expressive sound reproduction.
