Description
The PS Audio Stellar Gold DAC is a state-of-the-art flagship DAC from the pioneer of DACs. It sets new standards and uses multiple parallel DACs to remove any nonlinearity. Four DACs are used per channel and then the signal is fed to a pure Class A output stage. The result is a stunning sound that outperforms any single IC-based DAC.
Noise and crosstalk are reduced to a minimum and the dynamic range is massive. Lastly, PCM signals up to 768kHz and DSD up to 256 (11.2 MHz) can be played. Connectivity includes coaxial and optical digital inputs as well as I2S. There is also a balanced XLR output.
Parallel DAC technology
High-performance DACs, such as the PS Audio Stellar Gold DAC, gain several sonic benefits from using parallel units. Firstly, it reduces the noise level through averaging. Hence the signal-to-noise ratio is massive, at 127dB below maximum output. Noise is lowered by averaging out any non-linearities.
This increases the dynamic range and gives an audible improvement in distortion levels. Moreover, the combined resolution of four DACs far surpasses that of an individual DAC. The class A output ensures no crossover distortion is possible for smooth and distortion-free output.
Connectivity
Very high-end systems split each part of the audio signal path as much as possible. Hence the PS Audio Stellar Gold DAC just performs the functions of a DAC and needs a preamp to go with it such as the PS Audio Stellar Gold Preamp. Inputs include two coaxial digital inputs as well as an optical input.
These can be used for CD players and the like. There are also two i2S inputs these are used by very high-end sources. You can also connect a PC via USB. Line-level outputs are provided by two gold-plated RCA connectors and there are two balanced XLR outputs.
