Description
The Pro-Ject Pick it MC2 cartridge is the ideal choice for audiophiles looking to explore the advantages of a Moving Coil (MC) cartridge without the high price tag. This all-new design offers fresh and lively sound reproduction, delivering enhanced audio clarity and stereo imaging. With an elliptical diamond stylus mounted on an aluminium cantilever, it provides a richer tone and more subtle details compared to previous models, making it an excellent upgrade for entry to mid-level turntables.
Moving Coil Advantages
Through extensive research and development in creating their True Balanced turntables and phono stages, Pro-Ject recognized the significant impact of Moving Coil cartridges on achieving sound and mechanical perfection. MC cartridges allow you to fully utilize the technical benefits of a balanced connection, delivering superior dynamics, an expansive soundstage, and crucially, quieter sound. Despite the more intensive production process and higher costs associated with MC cartridges, Pro-Ject aimed to make this technology more accessible without compromising on performance. The result is the Pick it MC2, an affordable yet exceptional MC cartridge.
Enhanced Sound Performance
The light stylus/coil assembly in the Pick it MC2 allows for wider frequency response and improved transient response, which translates to more detailed reproduction and better resolution of low-level signals. With a lower source impedance, it’s less sensitive to external influences, reducing hum and ensuring a cleaner sound. However, due to the lower output (around 20dB less than MM cartridges), a high-quality phono stage is recommended to fully appreciate its potential.
Precision Engineering and Design
Pro-Ject has meticulously sourced the best Japanese components, particularly for critical parts like the diamond stylus and cantilever, ensuring excellent performance at an affordable price point. The cartridge is housed in a resonance-optimized ABS enclosure, weighing around 5 grams. With medium compliance, it’s a perfect match for most entry-level to mid-range turntables. Designed and built in a resonance-free cabinet, the Pick it MC2 delivers exceptional value, offering superior sound quality and craftsmanship for those ready to step into the world of Moving Coil cartridges.
