Description

The PMC Twenty5 26i Speakers are the flagship speakers in the range. This no-compromise design features three drivers and a much deeper cabinet. The mid-frequency driver is dedicated to the important vocal range. This speaker will bring out the very best in your audio equipment.

The i stands for improved and the PMC Twenty5 26i Speaker has no less than two Laminair ports for improved bass response. Moreover, power handling is increased to 300 watts. The bass diver is a 170mm long throw g-weave unit and the midrange is a 50mm chambered soft dome driver. Lastly, the tweeter is a 19mm ferrofluid-cooled unit.

PMC designed Bass and mid-range drivers

Three drivers are used by the PMC Twenty5 26i Speakers. The bass unit is a 170mm long-throw design with a woven glass-fibre cone. This is known as g-weave and is made of resin-bonded bonded glass-fibre that is stronger than paper and exhibits little colouration. The midrange unit is a 50mm PMC design with a rear chamber and a soft dome.

The all-important midrange is delivered with ultra-vivid clarity. Moreover, the motor and magnet system now provides 80% more power handling than previous versions. Lastly, this speaker also uses the PMC-designed advanced Transmission Line system to enhance the bass.

Ferrofluid-cooled soft dome tweeter

The tweeter used by the PMC Twenty5 26i Speaker is a SONOMEX 19mm ferrofluid cooled unit. The design is based on the acclaimed unit from the Twenty series. Ferrofluid is used to cool the coil assembly and has good heat dissipation characteristics. This improves power handling. Lastly, the tweeter has a surrounding waveguide that gives a wider high-frequency dispersion.

Advanced Transmission Line system bass enhancement

Unlike the other speakers in the range, the PMC Twenty5 26i Speaker has two Advanced Transmission Line enhancement tunnels. These provide a remarkable low-frequency performance down to 27 Hz. The tunnels take the sound from behind the drivers and send it to the outside via a pair of Laminar ports.

The ports are on the front so the speakers can be placed close to a wall without booming. The tunnels are also lined with acoustic material that absorbs any frequencies above a certain range. The bass is then less affected by the volume level.

Laminair airflow port

The PMC Twenty5 26i Speaker has two Laminair front-firing bass ports. These are inspired by the aerodynamic vents used by Formula One cars. The result is an airflow that boosts the bass without any turbulence and drag. Air noise is reduced and the bass has remarkable timing and a good dynamic range.

High-quality three-way crossover

The crossover, with a three-way design, is even more important. The audio spectrum is split into three and needs to maintain a flat frequency response overall. Extensive computer modelling and exhaustive listening tests are used to tweak the component values for the best performance.

Capacitors and inductors are used to create a set of filters. Only the best components are used and the PCBs are military-grade. The tracks are extra thick and wide to reduce resistance and improve current carrying capacity.

The cabinet design

The PMC Twenty5 26i Speaker has a cabinet that is designed to slope backwards. It is also deeper, to provide a bigger resonant cavity for the bass. The slope places the tweeter slightly further away from the listener. This improves the timing between the drivers.

Additionally, an accelerometer was used to test the effects of different isolation and damping materials. In this way, the size of the cabinet was optimized. Moreover, the spiked feet can be adjusted from the top.

This combines perfectly with the PMC Twenty5 subwoofer and are also the perfect accompaniment to the PMC Twenty5 Centre Speaker suitable for any room.
