Description
The PMC Twenty5.23i Active Speaker is a larger two-way floor-standing model with 2 x 100-watt Class D amplifiers built in. This makes it easy to create a system with just a preamp or streamer with volume control. The main feature is PMC’s advanced Transmission Line Bass System.
This boosts the bass response taking it as low as 46Hz. The 23 is the most popular in the passive range of speakers and the active version adds more functionality for mid-sized rooms.
Powerful Class D amplification
A Class D amplifier module is fitted to the PMC Twenty5.23i Active Speaker. This can also be retrofitted to the passive 23 version. Class D amplifiers are used in compact spaces as they generate less heat than conventional Class A/B amplifiers. They also need less power and are around 90% efficient.
Class D uses a series of high-frequency pulses to create the sound. This is known as Pulse Width Modulation. The closer together the pulses the higher the output. Notably, the PMC Twenty5.23i Active Speaker has a passive crossover that splits the audio band before being fed to two amplifiers that power the bass and treble drivers.
Deep bass response with ATL bass loading
The PMC-developed Advanced Transmission Line Bass Loading System features a tunnel that channels the sound from behind the bass driver. This is then fed to the outside world via a Laminair port on the front baffle.
The tunnel is lined with sound-absorbing material that removes all but the low-frequency sounds. The result is more bass in the correct phase with the main driver. The Laminair port smooths the airflow for a more accurate sound.
Great musicality
The PMC Twenty5.23i Active Speakers have a detailed and accurate bass, realistic mid-range, and delicate highs. Connectivity is via either a single RCA connector or preferably a balanced XLR lead. This will reduce the chance of any noise pickup. The cabinet comes with adjustable feet.
The cabinet
The PMC Twenty5.23i Active Speakers cabinet’s panels are precision machined for a tight fit. The ATL tunnel and panels are made of highly specified HDF material. Some panels are up to 40mm thick.
This ensures a rigid and anti-resonant mounting for the drivers. Modern bonding materials create an inert structure so that uncoloured audio is delivered. The fine veneers are finished in a deep and lustrous sheen.
