Description
The PMC Prodigy 5 speakers (pair) is the floor-standing version of the entry-level Prodigy range. It has a compact footprint and is suited to any style of room. Moreover, it can handle up to 250 watts of power but is sensitive enough to run from lower-powered amplifiers. The sound is weighty and crisply defined.
Notably, the bass driver is a PMC-designed 133mm natural fibre unit, while the tweeter is a 27mm soft dome design. Lastly, one of the main features of PMC speakers is the transmission line design. This enhances the bass and reduces distortion. There is also a bookshelf version of this speaker.
Laminair Vents
PMC Prodigy 5 Speakers use an advanced Transmission line system to enhance the bass and reduce distortion. Transmission line speakers place the drivers at the end of a long highly damped tunnel. The tunnel is covered with a material that absorbs all of the unwanted mid and high-frequency energy that is emitted from the back of the driver. It also has the effect of keeping low frequencies in phase with the front sound. As a result, the bass is greatly enhanced.
PMC designed drivers
PMC-designed drivers are used in the PMC Prodigy 5 Speakers. the bass unit is a 133mm unit with a natural fibre cone. The tweeter is a 27mm soft dome unit and the overall power handling is 250 watts at 6 Ohms. Due to the transmission line system bass frequency response goes as low as 35Hz and the high frequencies extend to 25 kHz. As a result, the sound is packed with verve and fun. The bass is powerful and the treble has a wide dispersion.
Crossover design
Crossovers are used to split the audio spectrum into low and high-frequency bands, that feed each driver. The PMC Prodigy 5 Speakers have a crossover frequency of 1.7kHz. As a result, the crossover forms a high pass filter that prevents low frequencies from entering the tweeter. High-quality inductors and capacitors are used to ensure a long life.
Who are PMC?
