Description
PMC Prodigy 1 Speakers are the best value speakers in the PMC range and a good introduction to the premium PMC sound. THE PMC Prodigy 1 speaker is a bookshelf design with a small footprint. However, it still has the PMC-designed Transmission line driver system.
This enhances the bass and reduces distortion. As a result, the sound is weighty and crisply defined, moreover, power handling is high at 250 watts. However, they are also efficient enough to be run from lower-powered amplifiers. Both the 133mm bass driver and 27mm tweeter are PMC designs.
Laminair Vents
An advanced Transmission line system is used by the PMC Prodigy 1 Speakers bass drivers. This enhances the bass and reduces distortion. Transmission line speakers feature a tunnel that runs from the back of the bass driver to the outside world via a port.
The tunnel is coated with a damping material. The aim is to control the airflow and remove any mid and high-frequency components from the sound. As a result, only in-phase bass signals leave the port boosting the bass response.
PMC designed drivers
PMC designs their own drivers and two of these are used by the PMC Prodigy 1 Speakers. Firstly, the bass unit is a 133mm long-throw driver with a natural fibre cone. Next, the tweeter is a wide dispersion 27mm unit with a soft dome. The overall power handling is 250 watts. Notably due to the transmission line system.
The bass response goes down to as low as 50Hz and the high frequencies extend up to 25kHz. Consequently, the sound is packed with verve and fun.
Crossover design
The PMC Prodigy 1 Speakers have a single frequency crossover that splits the audio spectrum into two bands. The crossover frequency is 1.7kHz and a high pass filter is used to feed the correct frequencies to the tweeter. Capacitors and inductors are used and these are of a high quality to give many years of service.
Who are PMC?
