Description
The PMC Cor integrated amplifier is designed to complement the company's renowned speakers by adding no sonic character of its own. As a result, the class A/B design has a very low distortion level of 0,001%. The unit is capable of 95 watts per channel into 8 Ohms.
Also, The PMC Cor integrated amplifier has great musicality, transparency, and neutrality. Notably, only the best components are used and the volume, tone, and balance faders are motorized. Lastly, the amplifier has balanced inputs for the best noise performance.
Class A/B analogue
The Class A/B design of the PMC Cor integrated amplifier works entirely in the analogue domain. There is no digital circuity to add “mush” to the sound. The design is kept as simple as possible for purist audiophiles. Notably, Class A/B amplifiers provide the performance of class A amplifiers at low powers with the power of Class B at higher volumes.
Class A/B explained
Class A was the original amplifier configuration during the valve era. Also, known as single-ended, it used a single amplification valve. The sound quality was good but the efficiency was low and the power consumption was high. That is because there is always a current flowing in the device, even when it is not operating.
As a result, class B was developed, which is biased so that only a small current flows in the output stage. The Class B output stage consists of two or more devices. The problem is that using two devices requires that they switch over at the crossover point.
This can create crossover distortion. Consequently, class A/B is used by most top-of-the-line amplifiers. Class A/B uses a complex biasing system that works in Class A at low volumes and gradually switches to Class B for higher output powers.
Only the best components
Only the best components were chosen for the PMC Cor integrated amplifier, with no compromise. Notably, the black PCBs are military grade and the volume, tone, and balance faders are inspired by the motorized designs used in recording studios. As a result, they can be remote-controlled. Get perfect sound on every track without leaving your armchair.
Simple connectivity.
The PMC Cor integrated amplifier has simple connectivity. There are four line-level analogue inputs along with a direct input that bypasses the tone controls. There are also two balanced inputs and a pre-out. Speaker terminals are gold-plated and can take spade connectors, plugs, or bare wires.
What are Balanced connectors?
High-end audio equipment such as the PMC Cor integrated amplifier uses a balanced system of interconnection. This originated in the studio where long cable runs are common. As a result balanced cables are used that have extra conductors. In fact, there is a “hot” pair of wires and a “cold” pair of wires.
There is also a zero-volt reference wire. Transformers are used to ensure that each pair of wires has a signal of opposite phase. When the signal is recombined at the other end of the cable any noise is cancelled out, similar to 2-2 being zero.
