Description
The Ortofon SPU GTX cartridge combines the legacy of the iconic SPU design with modern advancements in technology to enhance durability and performance. Handcrafted in Denmark, these cartridges feature a unibody housing made from a specially selected glass-fibre reinforced co-polymer, ensuring low resonance and stability.
This innovative material was introduced specifically for the SPU GTX series, providing a rigid and durable structure for the sensitive generator system inside. The bottom cover is also molded from the same material, providing additional safety and rigidity, ensuring the internal components are well-protected for optimal sound quality and longevity.
The SPU GTX series exemplifies Ortofon’s commitment to quality and innovation, merging classic craftsmanship with modern engineering.
Built-In Step-Up Transformer for Enhanced Compatibility
One of the standout features of the SPU GTX cartridge is its built-in step-up transformer, which allows the moving coil cartridge to be connected directly to any MM (Moving Magnet) input, making it easier to integrate with standard phono stages and amplifiers.
Traditionally, moving coil cartridges require a specific high-quality preamp or transformer to achieve optimal performance. However, by embedding the step-up transformer within the cartridge, Ortofon has made it more user-friendly, reducing setup complexity and ensuring compatibility with a wider range of equipment.
To achieve this, Ortofon worked closely with Lundahl Transformers, known for their expertise in audio transformers, to develop a new and highly efficient step-up transformer for the SPU GTX series. This collaboration has resulted in a moving coil cartridge that delivers exceptional sound quality with the ease of use typically associated with moving magnet designs.
Precision Sound with the SPU GTX E and Upgraded Stylus
The SPU GTX E variant is equipped with an upgraded elliptical diamond stylus, offering improved tracking ability and enhanced frequency response. This stylus design provides more precise contact with the grooves of the vinyl, ensuring better detail retrieval and reduced distortion.
The SPU GTX cartridges are designed with musicality and tonal richness in mind, maintaining the signature sound that Ortofon’s SPU series is known for. With an output voltage of 4 mV, these cartridges produce a clear and dynamic sound with impressive channel balance and minimal distortion.
The recommended tracking force of 4.0 g and dynamic compliance of 10 μm ensure excellent tracking ability, while the frequency response of ± 3 dB guarantees a wide and balanced soundstage. Whether you choose the SPU GTX S or the SPU GTX E, both variations offer audiophiles a high-quality, reliable, and user-friendly experience.
