Description

The Ortofon Concorde Music Black LVB MM Phono Cartridge is the flagship of the range. It Features a Shibata stylus tip mounted onto a boron cantilever. There is also a Nano Tube suspension system. As a result, the sound is very precise, with no lost information. LVB stands for Ludwig Von Beethoven and this model was released to celebrate the 250th anniversary of his birth. The Shibata stylus has exceptional high-frequency pickup and tracking capability.

Shibata diamond stylus

The Shibata tip fitted to the Ortofon Concorde Music Black LVB MM Phono Cartridge has a larger contact area with the groove. As a result, more information is captured. Moreover, the LVB model has a boron cantilever. This reduces the mass to a very low level. As a result, it can track high frequencies with ease. Additionally, the larger contact area reduces record and stylus wear. Shibata styli lasts for around 400 hours and the stylus can be changed.

Upgrades for the LVB Black model

The main upgrade for the flagship Ortofon Concorde Music Black LVB MM Phono Cartridge is the Nano-tube suspension system. This presents very little resistance to the groove information. Resulting in very accurate tracking. Additionally, the cartridge body is made of a new material. The Noryl plastic/glass combination is rigid and tends to resist resonances. The pickup also features silver-coated wires as well as split pole pins. The split pole reduces eddy currents that can suppress high frequencies.

Easy SME mounting

The Ortofon Concorde Music Black LVB MM Phono Cartridge is fitted with a standard SME connector. This makes it compatible with a wide range of turntables. The weight of the cartridge is also optimized for most modern turntables. Lastly, plug-and-play makes it easy to try different cartridge combinations.

Stylus types

The top-of-the-range Ortofon Concorde Music Black LVB MM Phono Cartridge features a Shibata Stylus. However, the other cartridges in the range use different tip types. The entry-level red uses a bonded elliptical tip, while the blue has a nude elliptical stylus. Next, the bronze has an improved pickup assembly. The choice of cartridge is down to your budget and listening preferences.

What are the different Cartridge types?

Moving magnet cartridges, such as the Ortofon Concorde Music Black LVB MM Phono Cartridge, use a tiny magnet mounted onto the cantilever. The stylus tip is mounted on the other end. However, moving coil cartridges have the pickup coils mounted onto the cantilever instead.

This is meant to reduce the mass but also has the effect of reducing the output. As a result, a special type of preamp is required. On the other hand, the boron cantilever of the Ortofon Concorde Music Black LVB MM Phono Cartridge also reduces the mass. Consequently, the performance of the LVB model is on par with moving coil designs.

Preamp requirements

The Ortofon Concorde Music Black LVB MM Phono Cartridge has a relatively high output of around 6mv. Therefore it will work with virtually any preamp. However, as it is a high-end unit a top-quality preamp should be used.
