Description

The Musical Fidelity MX-Stream is a high quality hi-fi streamer designed to be a purist and no compromise solution for music streaming.

Audio performance

Musical Fidelity have one aim getting the best possible sound from the best components. A long lifetime is guaranteed and many MF classic designs are still in use generations later. The design philosophy of the MX streamer follows the same path

Control and compatibilty options

The MX stream can be controlled in two main ways via a smartphone app or via a touchscreen monitor connected to the provided HDMI output. There is support for all lossless high-resolution streaming services built in. The latest Bluetooth technology improves the sound, streaming from your phone. Shareport is also installed so that you can use your iOS-devices.

Still have CD's?

This top-end Hi-Fi streamer can rip CD's when connected to an external USB storage device, and it will also automatically tag songs for music library indexing. This feature makes for a very versatile unit. You will need an external CD drive. Additionally, the unit can be connected to a NAS or network attached storage. This is useful if you have a collection of Ripped CD files or hi-res audio files.

Separation of components

For the very best possible audio experience you should separate all the components of a modern state-of-the-art system. Some streamers contain a DAC creating possible interference. The MX steam is a stand alone device. Keeping digital and analogue circuits separate removes ant chance of high frequency distortion.

No magnetic fields from power amp transformers.

Another source of sound degradation is the magnetic interference associated with pre and power amp power supplies. Having the digital streamline front-end well away from high power analogue circuits also sweetens the sound.

Top quality components

A long lifetime is guaranteed by using top quality components. Metal film resistors and hi-grade capacitors will not degrade or change value with time.
The MX streamer uses a low noise regulator to prevent any noise from entering the audio stream. There is also additional onboard PSU filtering using capacitors that will not leak electrolyte. Another source of noise is the clock generator. In this design the clock is isolated

Long life

Long life and future proofing is guaranteed by using an architecture that is open source. The unit can run any open source software making upgrades easy. The revolutionary design will always be up to date. That being said you can just plug and play this 1: 1 perfect streamer and you are ready to go. Connect your choice of USB DAC and the onboard operating system takes care of the rest.

Why use a dedicated streamer?

Yes you can use a computer or smartphone to stream music, but is this the optimal experience? A computer or smartphone is an-all-in-one device that is designed to do many things well but isn't purely designed for optimised music streaming. The MX-Stream is designed to do one thing well - stream your music.
Additionally, convenience is a factor, with the MX streamer all of your music is in one place with a single control interface and library.

Types of Streamer and DAC

There are four main ways of using a streaming service. A stand alone head end with no DAC, A streamer and DAC combination, a Streamer DAC and pre-amp combination, or an integrated amplifier with a built in DAC. Technically a Streamer with onboard storage is known as a streamer-server. This is a stand alone streamer designed to be (ideally) used with a separate DAC or digital input on your amplifier.
