Description
The Musical Fidelity BPC 5 Power Conditioner is the second most powerful in the range. It can supply up to 800 Watts in two Zones. This unit is designed to reduce noise and give a larger soundstage with more instrument separation.
Moreover, your equipment is protected from overvoltage and power surges. Notably, there are four outputs that are split into 800-watt and 200-watt zones. Lastly, a large toroidal transformer is used for isolation.
Four outputs with a capacity of 800 Watts
The Musical Fidelity BPC 5 Power Conditioner has four outputs: one of 200 Watts capacity and one of 600 Watts capacity. Higher-demand units such as amplifiers can be connected to the 800-watt output. Additionally, the lower-powered output can be used for turntables and CD players. An extension strip can be used if the total load is not exceeded. Lastly, TVs can also be connected.
Why multiple Zones?
Multiple zones are used to prevent differential mode cross-contamination. Notably, the Musical Fidelity BPC 5 Power Conditioner has two isolated zones. Items with switch mode power supplies should be connected to the same zone. Linear power supplies should be connected to the other zone. This will prevent any RF noise from being introduced into the other zone.
Efficient toroidal transformer
The Musical Fidelity BPC 5 Power Conditioner features a large toroidal transformer for isolation and protection. Notably, toroidal transformers have a continuous strip of grain-oriented silicon steel. This component is wound so that there is no air gap.
Standard EI transformers have an air gap that makes them larger and less efficient. The stacking factor with toroidal transformers is 95% as a result they have an efficiency of 90%. Moreover, they generate less heat and have a lower magnetic field.
Good surge protection
Surge protection prevents damage to your valuable audio equipment. The Musical Fidelity BPC 5 Power Conditioner features series mode surge suppression technology. This avoids shunting high voltages to the ground as this can raise the ground voltage.
Any ground voltage could cause hum and noise. Lastly, to indicate an overload or trip the LED display turns red, and the output is shut down.
Overload protection with input voltage detection
The Musical Fidelity BPC 5 Power Conditioner also has overload protection. The protection system uses a resettable circuit that can be reset with the push of a button. Any overload on the outputs will put the unit into protection mode and the indicator LED will glow red. To reset the unit the “no-Fuse-Breaker” button is pushed.
Why a mains conditioner?
Most domestic mains systems are prone to noise pickup. The wiring acts like a giant aerial and picks up radio frequency noise and noise from appliances. The noise can make audio equipment sound fuzzy.
Additionally connected equipment with switch mode power supplies can introduce noise onto the mains. As a result, the Musical Fidelity BPC 5 Power Conditioner is designed to both remove noise and protect the connected equipment.
