Description
The MJ Acoustics Masterclass Henley Subwoofer is a compact high-end unit that has a higher output and a larger, 12” driver, than the Ascot. Moreover, many customizable adjustments make this subwoofer great for both music and movies. Additionally, the subwoofer will add impact to gaming due to the long throw design.
Unusually the amplifier is a class A/B unit with large reservoir capacitors. These provide plenty of power for increased dynamics. Controls include the crossover frequency, phase, and gain. Lastly, the quality cabinet is rugged and there are advanced protection systems built in.
Powerful Class A/B linear amplifier
An unusual feature of the MJ Acoustics Masterclass Henley Subwoofer is the Class A/B amplifier. In active speakers, class D is normally used as it is more efficient and uses less power. However, Class A gives the best quality. Class A/B provides the low distortion of class A with the improved efficiency of Class B.
Notably, class A/B still uses lots of power. As a result, the MJ Acoustics Masterclass Henley Subwoofer features large reservoir capacitors. These have a large power reserve to deal with any transients, such as the explosions in movies.
12” high excursion driver
The MJ Acoustics Masterclass Henley Subwoofer boasts a long throw 12” woofer. A long throw cone means that the woofer can move lots of air for a stunning performance. Moreover, for rigidity the basket is made of heavy steel and the dual high-intensity magnets ensure a low-distortion output. Lastly, the pole piece has been extended to deal with the long throw and the cone is now mass balanced.
Good connectivity
A high-end feature of the MJ Acoustics Masterclass Henley Subwoofer is the speaker-level input. This allows the unit to be used with older amplifiers that do not have a subwoofer output. For AV receivers with a subwoofer output, there are also RCA line-level inputs.
Next, Two LFE inputs are provided for the Low-Frequency effects channel, available on some AV receivers. Controls are provided for gain, the crossover frequency, and phase. The crossover frequency can be set between 20 Hz and 120 Hz.
MJ Acoustics Smart Remote App
The MJ Acoustics Masterclass Henley Subwoofer can be controlled by a dedicated app. The Smart Remote App can be used to control the crossover frequency as well as phase. It can be installed on Android and Apple devices. The subwoofer has Bluetooth installed so that your Smartphone or Tablet can connect.
Connecting a subwoofer
There are various ways of connecting a subwoofer depending on the type of amplifier in use. The most common is the line-level subwoofer output on an AV receiver. These often also have an additional LFE output. Moreover, some soundbars also have a subwoofer output. On the other hand, older amplifiers may not have a subwoofer output.

What is LFE?
As well as the normal subwoofer channel, movies are recorded with a Low-Frequency Effects channel. The MJ Acoustics Masterclass Henley Subwoofer has an input for LFE. LFE can also be switched out if required
