Description
Missions 778X integrated amplifier represents a nearly four-decade obsession with sound for Mission. First launched as the 778 back in 1983, this amplifier is their first foray back into amplifiers since they launched the incredible Cyrus brand.
Amplification
The beating heart of the 778X is the Class AB power amp that incorporates a low noise transformer with a reservoir capacity of 30,000 uF keeps your music under close control and feeds to the gold-plated output terminals that deliver 45W at 8ohm and 65W at 4ohm with plenty of room for your speaker set to breathe.
Onboard DAC
With the advent of the digital age, Mission has been able to keep up thanks to the DAC used on the 778X which is harnessed from the Sabre32 family to deliver high-resolution sound with excellent dynamic range without distortion.
Well Connected
A lot of changes have occurred since the first iteration of the 778, for starters, there are more ways to enjoy audio with the advent of streaming. The 778X has been given the pre-requisite upgrades to compete at today's high specification with USB type B, 3 S/PDIF sockets (two optical & one coaxial) handling the digital inputs with a trio of RCA inputs (two line level & 1 MM phono) take care of the analogue options.
The 778X doesn't stop there though, it also includes an excellent quality Bluetooth module to stream music from your smartphone, tablet etc making this amplifier a superb allrounder that combines modern features with a nod to iconic design.
Customer Reviews
Set up was a dream with all the options one needs with hook up on the very organised back panel, which directs the cabling horizontally backwards for neatness.
After running in for the first day at low volume, I went ahead with a Listening test from the phono stage, then Bluetooth and a wired input at various volumes. With known good recording inputs, the result was a refined and smooth sound, with clarity and detail without fatigue. The bass was deep, rich, punchy and really controlled, even at high volumes of 10 plus.
Overall, this Amp shines with musicality and possesses a real refined quality to deliver both a gentleness and great power, which ever is required.
Well done Mission! It’s a winner in my opinion! I’ve heard more expensive amps that don’t perform as well.
Highly recommended in every way.
