Description
The Klipsch R-40PM Active Speakers (Pair), is a 35 watts per channel active speaker, with a built in DAC. Moreover, they are a two-way, bass reflex, bookshelf design, with an impeccable pedigree. Features include an edge-to-edge high frequency horn, for room filling sound. This features a 1” aluminium tweeter.
Stunning bass is provided by a spun copper woofer and a remote control is provided. Furthermore, unusually for an active speaker, the R-40PM has a phono input that can also be switched to line level. You can connect your devices via Bluetooth or an optical digital input.
Tractrix horn for wide dispersion high frequencies.
This would not be a Klipsch speaker without a horn. The R-40PM Active Speakers features a 1” aluminium LTS tweeter that is paired with a wide dispersion, Tractrix horn, for stunning highs. It’s designed so that the horn never loses clarity. Even when driven hard. Horns are highly efficient. As a result, they can provide accurate sound with less power and less distortion. Klipsch’s horn technology directs sound at the listener without wasting energy elsewhere. They also have a wide dynamic range and a flat frequency response.
Spun copper woofer
The 4” woofers of the R-40PM Active Speakers feature a spun copper crystal polymer (TCP) cone. These have a steep angle for a smoother response and better integration with the crossover. This helps with accuracy and transparency. Finally, the low-profile magnetic grille gives you the option of having a plain black exterior or a vison in copper.
Great connectivity with digital inputs and Bluetooth
The Klipsch R-40PM, is a versatile performer, with a built in MM phone preamp as well as Bluetooth wireless connectivity. Moreover, there is a digital optical input and a USB input. On top of this, the phono input can be switched to line level, for connection to a CD player or other line level source. There is also a subwoofer output. The second speaker is hard-wired to the first, via a pair of binding posts. Finally, there is also a 3.5mm aux input.
Powerful bass with a subwoofer option
The R-40PM features dynamic bass EQ, for powerful bass, that remains under control no matter the volume. The cabinet has extra depth for more impactful sound. Bass is powerful without a subwoofer, however an output for a subwoofer is included. For a compact speaker the output is powerful, and they will fit in most rooms or even on your computer desk. The frequency response is 60Hz to 20kHz and the dynamic bass EQ lowers the bass response to 52Hz.
Class D efficient amplification
Most active speakers use Class D amplification. This is almost 90% efficient, and uses MOSFET output transistors. Noise is kept to a minimum, as the signal path is entirely digital. Class D also generates less heat and uses less power than linear amplifiers. The output is a series of high frequency pulses. This is known as Pulse Width modulation or PWM. The closer together the pulses, the higher the output. The signal is then fed through a low pass filer to recover the audio.
