Description
The Klipsch Pro-180RPC-LCR In Ceiling Speaker is a high-quality top-of-the-line speaker with an 8” Cerametallic woofer and a 1” Titanium dome tweeter. Moreover, both drivers are mated to a composite-coated round Tractrix horn. This speaker is reference standard and is good for home theatre systems as well as distributed audio. The power rating is 50 watts.
Cerrametallic woofer
The woofer in the Klipsch Pro-180RPC In-Ceiling Speaker is made of a Cerametallic material that is a combination of metal and ceramic. The material has a high stiffness-to-mass ratio as well as good damping. This combination provides powerful bass frequencies.
Why titanium tweeters?
The Klipsch Pro-180RPC-LCR In-Ceiling Speaker features a titanium domed tweeter. Titanium is an expensive metal used in the aerospace industry. However, it also has properties that make it ideal for tweeters. Titanium is known for its stiffness.
This helps the cone keep its shape and gives precise sound reproduction. Additionally, titanium is heat resistant, as a result, it can be used in high-power systems. Next, titanium provides an extended high-frequency response in this case up to 23 kHz, lastly, titanium acts as a heat sink protecting the voice coil from overloading.
The tractrix horn
Behind the Klipsch Pro-180RPC-LCR In Ceiling Speaker drivers sits a Traktix horn. This is used to focus the sound on a particular area. Tractrix horns also resist reverb and use less power for the same output.
Home cinema systems
The Klipsch Pro-180RPC-LCR In Ceiling Speaker can be used as the ceiling speaker or speakers in a Dolby Atmos or DTS:X system. These multichannel systems use speakers that surround the listener to create a 3D sound space.
They could also be used as the side speakers mounted in a wall. Distributed audio refers to a chain of speakers that are connected to each other to provide background music.
