Description
The KEF Q4 Meta Centre LCR Speaker has been designed for use as either a left, centre or right speaker in home cinema systems. It can be wall-mounted to save space and is part of the Q Meta range that includes floor-standing and bookshelf speakers as well as a centre speaker.
There is also an upwards-firing Dolby Atmos speaker in the range. A Uni-Q driver is fitted that comprises a tweeter and woofer in a single unit. Moreover, it has been upgraded with MAT technology. This absorbs most of the sound coming from the rear of the tweeter to minimise mutual interference
12th generation Uni-Q with MAT™ driver
KEF Developed the Uni-Q driver as a single-point source device. As fitted to the KEF Q4 Meta Centre LCR Speaker, it is now in its 12th iteration. The current version has been fitted with MAT.
This technology uses Metamaterial to absorb 90% of the sound coming from the rear of the tweeter. This prevents any interference for a clean and clear sound.
About timing errors
Most speakers have the tweeter and woofer several CM apart. This can cause the sound from each to arrive at the listener at slightly different times. This is known as a timing or phase error. It has the effect of blurring the sound. Consequently, the Uni-Q driver acts as a single-point source for very accurate clean sound.
Enhanced crossover
The crossover in the KEF Q4 Meta Centre LCR Speaker has been tuned by extensive listening tests. This two-way unit has a crossover that acts as a high pass filter for the tweeter. The crossover frequency is carefully modelled for optimal results. Moreover, only the best components are used for a long life.
What are LCR speakers?
LCR stands for Left, Centre, and Right. Notably, it can have two meanings, in this case, it refers to a speaker that can be used in any of these positions. Each speaker has a single Uni-Q driver and one set of connectors.
On the other hand, LCR is also used to refer to sound bars that have three built-in speakers for the left, centre, and right channels. These have three separate amplifiers and/or three sets of inputs.
Home cinema systems
The KEF Q4 Meta Centre LCR Speaker can be used in any position in a home cinema system. However, there are also large floor standers and bookshelf speakers in the Q Meta range. There is also a three-way centre speaker and dedicated upward-firing Dolby Atmos speakers.
