Description
The JBL Stage 200P Subwoofer features a high excursion 10” driver and a powerful 150-watt amplifier. The subwoofer is part of JBL’s stage range and is intended for Home Cinema AV receivers with a line-level subwoofer output.
The crossover frequency is variable between 35Hz and 150 Hz. Other controls include Auto power, level, and phase. Lastly, there are two rear-firing ports for extended bass response, down to 28 Hz.
Large 10” driver
The driver cone in the JBL Stage 200P Subwoofer is made of Ribbed Polycellulose. This material combines the best properties of paper pulp (cellulose) and Polypropylene. That is less distortion and less susceptibility to moisture. The cone also has a high excursion, so that more air is moved for thunderous bass with movies and music.
Why a subwoofer?
Smaller speakers tend to have small bass drivers and cannot create ultra-low frequencies. As a result, they are often paired with a subwoofer. The JBL range of AV receivers has outputs for two subwoofers. Notably, most movies are mixed with an LFE track. (Low-Frequency Effects). Moreover, even the larger stand-mount speakers benefit from having a subwoofer.
A quality cabinet
It is important that the subwoofer has a solid cabinet and is heavy enough to not vibrate around the room. Low frequencies are more prone to resonances and hence the subwoofer has a lot of internal bracing. Moreover, the cabinet of the JBL Stage 200P Subwoofer also features two rear-firing bass ports.
This creates less vibration on wooden floors. The ports also extend the bass response down to 28 Hz.
Setting up a subwoofer
The JBL Stage 200P Subwoofer is designed for use with AV receivers that have a line-level subwoofer output. There is also an auto-on feature where the subwoofer will turn on if an input signal is detected. This feature can be turned off. To set up a subwoofer: firstly the level should be set so that the bass does not overpower the main speakers.
Additionally, the phase should be set correctly. If this is wrong the subwoofer will cancel out the bass from the mains speakers. This can be set by ear. Finally, the crossover frequency should be set to match the main speakers cutoff frequency.
The JBL Stage range of speakers and AV receivers
The JBL range of speakers is designed for home cinema systems. JBL also produces a range of great value and well-specified AV receivers. The speakers comprise two sets of bookshelf speakers and two sets of Floor standers. There are also upward-firing Dolby Atmos speakers and a superb four-driver centre speaker.
Available in Espresso or Latte woodgrain finish with solid color front baffles and matching grilles.
