Description
The Gold Note PH-10 Phono Stage is a fully analogue preamplifier designed to extract the maximum musical information from vinyl records with precision and natural balance. Built using carefully selected high-quality components, it is engineered to reproduce the original musical event with clarity and coherence.
The PH-10 combines advanced functionality with intuitive operation, making it suitable for both experienced vinyl enthusiasts and those refining their analogue systems. Its compact chassis houses a sophisticated circuit capable of accommodating a wide range of cartridges and record pressings. By uniting flexibility with a purist analogue signal path, the PH-10 provides a refined and adaptable platform for serious record playback in high-performance audio systems.
Intuitive Control with Single Knob Interface
Operation of the PH-10 is centred around Gold Note’s Single Knob Control system, developed to offer precise adjustment without interrupting listening. Working in conjunction with a clear colour display, the control interface allows users to select equalisation curves, gain, loading and other parameters in real time.
Changes can be made quickly and accurately while music continues to play, preserving the flow of the listening session. The layout is designed for clarity and ease of use, avoiding unnecessary complexity. This balance of advanced functionality and straightforward navigation ensures that fine-tuning the phono stage to suit different records and cartridges is both efficient and intuitive.
Multiple Equalisation Curves with Enhanced Mode
A defining feature of the PH-10 is its ability to select between three equalisation curves: RIAA, Decca London and American Columbia. This flexibility allows the phono stage to match the original mastering standard of a record, ensuring correct tonal balance and frequency response.
Inspired by professional cutting lathe technology, Gold Note has also implemented an enhanced option for each curve, extending performance and refinement where appropriate. This attention to historical and technical accuracy ensures faithful reproduction across a diverse vinyl collection. By accommodating different recording standards within a single unit, the PH-10 provides a level of adaptability rarely found in conventional phono stages.
Comprehensive Loading and Gain Adjustment
The PH-10 offers nine selectable loading options, ranging from 10 ohms to 47 kilo ohms, alongside four gain settings adjustable from standard levels with options of 0 dB, plus or minus 3 dB, and plus 6 dB. This allows precise optimisation for both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, with input sensitivity supporting 0.1 mV MC up to 10.0 mV MM.
Two independent RCA inputs enable connection of separate tonearms, each with individually adjustable parameters that can be stored in memory even when the unit is powered off. This level of control ensures accurate matching and seamless switching between cartridges without repeated configuration.
Performance, Connectivity and Filtering
Technically, the PH-10 delivers a frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz within tight tolerances, extending to 50 kHz in Enhanced mode. Total harmonic distortion is kept below 0.05 per cent at 1 kHz, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 89 dB and dynamic response of 105 dB.
An adjustable 10 Hz infrasonic filter at 36 dB per octave helps manage unwanted low-frequency resonance. Output options include both unbalanced RCA and balanced XLR connections, with the balanced output providing additional gain. Output impedance is maintained at 50 ohms, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of preamplifiers and integrated amplifiers.
Power Supply and System Expansion
The PH-10 is powered by a super-linear internal supply with low standby consumption, designed to provide stable and clean operating conditions for the analogue circuitry. For those seeking further performance refinement, Gold Note offers the optional PSU-10 external super inductive power supply.
This dedicated unit is engineered to enhance realism, dimensionality and overall precision by delivering even greater stability and current control. With modest power consumption and compact dimensions, the PH-10 integrates easily into a variety of systems. The Gold Note PH-10 Phono Stage represents a carefully engineered solution for vinyl playback, combining technical sophistication with musical authenticity.
