Description

Edwards Audio Apprentice EQ MC Phono Stage adapts the earlier Edwards Audio MM1 model in a new and improved design while retaining its predecessor's passive treble and active bass equalisation.

This high-performing model punches well above its weight by utilising a second stage amplifier to buffer the equalisation network and to ensure a low output impedance. Alongside this, the MC gain uses a third separate op-amp.

Sleek Construction, Intuitive Design

The Apprentice EQ MC phono stage is designed to be partnered with the brand's bespoke single rail DC regulated switch mode power supply. As a result, the requirement for expensive extrusion has been eliminated. A sleek 3mm black acrylic front panel and a 5mm machined aluminium frame completes the aesthetic of the model. In the front panel switch you will find MM or MC selection.

Sublime Sound Performance

The model delivers a near silent noise floor and 42dB gain in MM mode or 63dB gain in MC mode, so you can expect an audiophile level sound performance.

Customer Reviews

Review by
Nice
I have one of these and also a Schiit Mani, which I swap around with different turntables and MM carts (Nag MP110, AT440mlb, Goldring 1042, AT 95ex). This phono stage has the slight edge on the Mani to my ears. Main reason being that the higher frequencies have a bit more zing, without being coarse or overbearing.. The general presentation is similar to the Mani in all other respects; enjoyable, controlled and tight.
