Description
The Dali Rubikore 2 Speaker is a bookshelf model with a new 6.5” double magnet mid/bass driver. Technology developed for the flagship Dali Kore loudspeakers is used. There are also two-floor standers as well as home cinema speakers in the Rubikore range.
The bass/mid driver has a paper and wood fibre “clarity cone” that provides a clear and smooth midrange. Additionally, there is a rear-firing bass port for punchy bass. The maximum power handling is 150 Watts and the frequency response is 50 Hz to 26 kHz. Lastly, the sound has a natural delicacy and warmth.
New Clarity Cone drivers
The paper and wood fibre driver used by the Dali Rubikore 2 Speaker, is known as the “Clarity Cone”. The driver also uses Dali’s SMC magnet material. The magnets are made of a coated, magnetic, granular material that has a high magnetic permeability.
The material can be formed into any shape. Moreover, it has the advantage of removing common issues that can be present with iron magnets. This includes hysteresis, eddy currents, and frequency non-linearity. As a result, distortion and colouration are reduced.
Low-loss dome tweeter
The Dali Rubikore 2 Speaker features a top-mounted Low Loss dome Tweeter. The unit is Ferrofluid cooled for more power handling capability. The Tweeter also has a surrounding waveguide that helps to disperse the more directional high-frequency sounds, around the listening area. Ferrofluid surrounds the voice coil.
Here it helps to remove heat when the tweeters are running at high power levels. This prevents the coil from burning out. Another issue is the directionality of high-frequency sounds. They are more easily absorbed by objects in the room. As a result, the tweeters should be as close to ear level as possible.
Upgraded crossover
The crossover in the Dali Rubikore 2 Speakers uses SMC core inductors to minimize signal loss. There is also a continuous flare reflex port to boost the bass and reduce air turbulence. Crossovers are used to split the audio range into bands for feeding to each individual driver.
Capacitors and inductors are used to form a high-pass filter. Moreover, the quality of the capacitors is important. In the past, a paper dielectric was used. This tended to go leaky over time. Nowadays, a polypropylene dielectric is used. This type of capacitor will last for decades.
Danish quality cabinets
The Rubikore range is hand-assembled in Denmark using locally sourced materials. The cabinets are well made and come in four luxury finishes, high gloss white, high gloss black, natural walnut, and high gloss maroon. Additionally, the design is well-braced and resists resonances.
