Using technologies developed for Chord's signature Sarum range, continuous developments make this one of the best sounding speaker cables available. Signature XL is designed to be incredibly neutral, transparent and capable of creating improvements and revealing layers of detail in any system. 

Signature XL

Signature Reference previously used PTFE insulation (Teflon) which until the arrival of Taylon, was Chord's “go to” material. Although expensive, it offered the best performance. Material technology is constantly developing and improving and alternatives to PTFE are now available.

While the high cost of Taylon prevents Chord from using this in the Signature range, they have found a suitable family of insulation materials known as XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene). One version of this material looked particularly interesting and following listening tests proved to be clearly better than the PTFE in Signature Reference and was therefore adopted.

Generations

The original Signature cable already offered stunning detail levels and ability to carry dynamic information, but the Signature Reference and now the Signature XL take these characteristics to another level, bridging the gap between Signature and the reference Sarum range.

Signature XL is built in the same way as the original Signature. Each set is made to order and the two conductors are held in place with a precision machined aluminium clamp and twisted along their length to improve flexibility (Signature XL is markedly more flexible than the original Signature).

The aluminium clamp is designed to hold the cable securely but avoid any compression on the cable itself. Like Signature, Signature XL is available in red and black and also in all black as well.

Precision Design

Chord Signature speaker cable is the result of several years' experimentation with shielded cables. The first prototype was so stiff it was virtually unusable, and a great deal of work went into producing the same performance in a more flexible design. The insulation is a gas-foamed polyethene, which has several major advantages. It produces a lower dielectric constant and better phase stability, both of which contribute to the Signature's outstanding performance. Each set of Signature speaker cables is factory terminated by Chord and although conductor pairs are separately shielded, the cable is twisted along its length to improve flexibility.

Most Compatible Systems?

Signature speaker cable will work consistently well from system to system, to some extent regardless of cost. There is an assumption that expensive cables belong with expensive systems. This is not necessarily the case. One of the most compelling demonstrations of what a set of properly shielded interconnects and speaker cable can bring to a system came when the cost of the interconnects and speaker cables was the same as the combined cost of the CD player, amplifier and speakers.

Design Principles

Chord Signature was developed to work in conjunction with the Chord Signature interconnects. The design principles of all three cables are very similar and despite the differences in construction, conductor and insulation materials, all three cables will work extremely well together.
