Description
The Bowers & Wilkins CCM382 Ceiling Speakers have a larger bass/midrange driver than the CCM362 speaker, at 8”. As a result, they have slightly more bass. They also have a centrally mounted soft dome tweeter for clear highs.
Moreover, they are designed to be moisture resistant and can be used in damp environments such as pool rooms and shower rooms. The discrete design has a minimal width border and the power handling is 80 watts.
Why ceiling speakers?
In-ceiling speakers are used where it would be awkward to fit normal speakers such as pool rooms, shower rooms, dining rooms, and the like. The Bowers & Wilkins CCM382 Ceiling Speaker is also moisture-proof.
However, the most common use for ceiling speakers is Dolby Atmos. Dolby Atmos is a multi-channel home cinema system that uses overhead speakers to create a 3D effect with more dimensionality and realism.
Dolby Atmos and ceiling speakers
The Bowers & Wilkins CCM382 Ceiling Speakers can be used in Dolby Atmos systems. Dolby Atmos began in cinemas but is now available in the home. Celling speakers are used to generate a 3D sound field. Individual sound “objects” are panned to anywhere in 3D space.
For example a missile streaks overhead with the appropriate sound. Dolby Atmos also uses side and rear speakers. As a result, Bower and Wilkins also make in-wall speakers for this purpose.
Bower and Wilkins architectural speakers
The Bower and Wilkins CCM range of ceiling speakers feature 6” and 8” versions. Some models have an adjustable tweeter for more directional sound. There is also a reference series of ceiling speakers that are more suited to top-of-the-line home cinema systems.
Lastly, Bower and Wilkins also make in-wall speakers that can be used as the front, side, or rear speakers in a surround sound system.
