Description
The Arcam SA45 Streaming Integrated Amplifier is the flagship model in the range. Added features over the SA35 include a more powerful Class G amplifier and dual subwoofer outputs. Moreover, the display is now 8.3” in size. Power supply upgrades include a toroidal transformer and an improved user interface.
The power output is 160 Watts per channel. Additionally, the PCB has a special shielding layer to reduce interference. Next, a top-of-the-line ESS DAC is used and streaming capability is comprehensive. Moreover, analogue is not forgotten with a quality MM and MC phono stage. Lastly, Direc Live Room Correction is included.
Arcam’s focus is on sound quality.
Arcam focuses on sound quality above all else. As a result, the design of the Arcam SA45 Streaming Integrated Amplifier has features that reduce distortion and interference. The main one is a carefully designed six-layer circuit board.
The PCB has a ground plane that shields the components from noise and interference. Moreover, the best DAC available is installed. The DAC uses the latest Hyperstream iV topology from ESS. Lastly, the design is electrically balanced, this also reduces noise pickup and improves channel separation.
Low power consumption PSU
The power supply in the Arcam SA45 Streaming Integrated Amplifier is both efficient and low noise. It has been upgraded with a linear toroidal transformer. These have a reduced magnetic field compared to traditional transformers.
Moreover, linear power supplies do not emit high-frequency noise as switch mode units do. However, to create a highly efficient unit, a low-power consumption switching supply is used for the standby supply.
Efficient Class G amplifier
Normally high power amplifiers use Class A/B or Class D. However the Arcam SA45 Streaming Integrated Amplifier uses Class G. Class G uses less power than Class A/B and has a similar low distortion output. However, it uses two power supply voltages.
The higher voltage is switched in when needed for high output powers. In this way, power consumption and heat are reduced. Lastly, the components used are carefully selected for a long life and good performance. Class G is also a step up over Class D, while still being relatively efficient.
8.3” High resolution display
The Arcam SA45 Streaming Integrated Amplifier features a large 8.3” display that can be read from across the room. Album artwork, track details, and other metadata can be displayed. Most phones, tablets, and PC’s are also supported.
Additionally, Arcam has its own app, named Radia, that can also be used to control the unit. The app supports Apple Airplay, Google Chromecast, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, and Roon
Good connectivity for most devices
Vinyl users will be pleased with the Arcam SA45 Streaming Integrated Amplifier. It features both MM and MC inputs, as well as an additional line-level input. Moreover, there is an XLR input not featured on the SA35.
Digital inputs include two optical and two coaxial inputs. For video use, there is an HDMI input that is eARC enabled. Additionally, there are two subwoofer outputs with this flagship model. Lastly, both Bluetooth and WIFI are built-in and the unit supports HD audio.
Dirac Live Room Correction
Direc Live Room Correction is installed on the Arcam SA45 Streaming Integrated Amplifier. The furniture, windows, and walls in a room all act to muddy the sound of an amplifier. Reflections and refractions cause phase errors and an uneven frequency response.
As a result, Dirac Live uses a microphone to monitor the sound in the room. It can then automatically correct the equalization for an even response and clean output.
