Description
The Wharfedale Diamond 12.3Di Atmos Speakers (Pair) continue the long heritage of the Diamond series, a range known for delivering remarkable sound quality at accessible prices. For decades, the Diamond name has represented the ideal entry point into genuine high fidelity audio, consistently earning awards and international recognition for exceptional performance.
The original Diamond 12 Series, introduced in 2020, cemented this reputation by offering a level of refinement, build quality and acoustic balance that rivals could not match within the same price bracket. With the evolution of manufacturing techniques and materials, Wharfedale has refreshed the line with the Diamond 12i collection, maintaining all the strengths of the original models while introducing subtle improvements in both design and sound without increasing prices.
Why the Diamond 12 Series Continues to Lead
Over the last five years, the Diamond 12 range has dominated the budget loudspeaker category thanks to its balance of build quality, material choice and tonal accuracy. As many manufacturers raised prices or reduced product quality due to inflation, Wharfedale held the pricing of every Diamond model steady, improving their real-world value each year.
This consistency helped the Diamond 12 Series become Britain’s best-selling affordable loudspeaker line and retain its popularity throughout its lifespan. Wharfedale originally saw no need to replace the range, since it continued to meet customer expectations and outperform alternatives. However, advancements in design methodology allowed the brand to update and enhance the series while keeping its identity and affordability intact, resulting in the new Diamond 12i range.
The Diamond 12i Family and the Available Atmos Solutions
The Wharfedale Diamond 12.3Di Speakers (Pair) sit within the broader Diamond 12i family, which includes both stereo and home cinema models. The range consists of two standmount speakers and two floorstanders for traditional stereo systems, while home theatre setups are supported by a centre channel and a dedicated effects speaker designed to expand immersion.
Most importantly, the effects model can be mounted on the wall or placed on top of the Diamond 12.1i or 12.3i speakers to create height channels for Dolby Atmos formats. This added flexibility allows users to integrate spatial audio without installing ceiling speakers.
Visual Refinement with Contemporary Finishes
The Diamond 12i Series introduces a refreshed set of finishes that provide a modern aesthetic while maintaining the high build quality that defines the Diamond name. The previous wood effect options have been replaced with three new finishes tailored to contemporary interior design trends. Deep Black offers a smooth semi matte surface with a striking and refined appearance.
Stone Grey provides a similarly tactile finish with a bold, architectural character that suits a wide range of décor styles. Classic Walnut refreshes the traditional look by pairing warm wood grain with a contrasting black front baffle, creating a premium and timeless visual statement. These upgraded finishes enhance the look and feel of every model in the 12i range without affecting affordability.
Performance Improvements and Acoustic Upgrades
To accompany the new finishes, Wharfedale revisited the internal engineering of each Diamond 12i speaker to identify where meaningful acoustic improvements could be made without increasing cost. Led by Director of Acoustic Design Peter Comeau, alongside engineers Dan Bailey Ornellas and Oliver Davies, the team refined bass port tuning and airflow behaviour using advanced analysis techniques such as laser interferometry and computational fluid dynamics.
These refinements resulted in a revised bass reflex port and improved internal damping materials. The changes create tighter, more articulate low frequency performance while enhancing the transition between bass and midrange. The improvements are particularly noticeable in smaller rooms, offering clearer bass control and better spatial consistency. The speakers maintain the neutral, transparent character of the Diamond 12 Series while increasing musical engagement.
Driver Technology, Cabinet Engineering and Overall Construction
The Wharfedale Diamond 12.3Di Speakers (Pair) use the proven Klarity driver cones created from a composite of polypropylene and mica to achieve low coloration, rigidity and fast response. These drivers are reinforced with ribs to maintain a stable shape, while the magnet system incorporates an aluminium compensation ring to reduce variations in inductance.
The voice coil is wound on a glass fibre and epoxy resin bobbin for excellent thermal stability and power handling. High frequencies are delivered by a 25 millimetre woven polyester dome tweeter with smooth dispersion and natural tonal balance. The cabinet uses wood fibre board panels of varying thickness and Intelligent Spot Bracing to minimise resonance.
This careful construction ensures that every driver performs at its highest capability, resulting in accurate, expressive and highly engaging sound quality.
