Description

The We Are Rewind Portable Cassette Player is a compact unit that is inspired by the portable cassette units popular in the 1980s. The company was set up to develop this new portable cassette player/recorder. Notably, it has a new mechanism with a stereo head.

Additionally, this colourful unit is also capable of recording on type I tape. Unlike earlier cassette players there is a built-in lithium-ion reachable battery with a life of 10 to 12 hours. Lastly, there is a Bluetooth output that can be paired with headphones or an active speaker.

Connectivity

The connectivity of the We Are Rewind Portable Cassette Player includes a 3.5mm plug for headphones as well as a 3.5mm input for recording. There is also a DC 5V input via USB. This is used to charge the battery. Lastly, there is a Bluetooth output that can connect to headphones or an active speaker.

About cassettes

Cassettes were invented in the 1960s as a more convenient way of using tape. Reel-to-reel tapes could be cumbersome and difficult to thread. Later came different tape tapes such as chrome and metal. This improved the frequency response and noise performance. Pre-recorded cassettes came along in the mid-1960s. However, tape hiss was a problem and Dolby B was developed to reduce this. Nowadays the licensing has lapsed and no new machines feature Dolby B or C.

Modern tapes

Cassette tapes Have had a resurgence recently with artists issuing music tapes. Notably they have no Dolby noise reduction. There is also a collectors market for vintage blank tapes as well as some new production tapes. The We Are Rewind Portable Cassette Player can also be used to copy old tapes to a computer. The user experience evokes nostalgia and sporting a “Walkman” can be a fun pastime.
