Description
The elegant design of the Reloop Turn 2 Turntable is complemented by a range of quality components. This entry-level turntable features a belt drive that isolates the already low-vibration DC motor from the die-cast platter. Moreover, the motor is quiet for an unobtrusive listen.
The RCA output is gold-plated and an external power supply is used to minimize interference. There is also a separate Earth connection to prevent Earth loops. Next, all cables are removable to allow for upgrades. Lastly, the heavy plinth is made of MDF and available in a matt black, red, or white finish.
Two-speed unit
The speed of the Reloop Turn 2 Turntable is controlled by a switch that is mounted underneath the chassis. This is in keeping with the minimalist design. The platter is made of die-cast aluminum and provides enough mass to reduce wow and flutter along with the precision DC motor.
The power supply plugs into the back of the chassis and is an external type. This removes any possibility of interference.
Straight tonearm
The classic straight tonearm fitted to the Reloop Turn 2 Turntable has an angled headshell that holds the supplied Ortofon cartridge. Moreover, the standard SME locking connector allows for the easy changing of cartridges.
A manual tone arm lift is provided along with an anti-skating mechanism. Anti-sake is needed as the tonearm tends to pull to the centre of the record. This can lead to uneven wear and distortion. Anti-skate applies a counterforce to improve the tracking.
For those new to turntables
There are a few things to be aware of if you are new to turntables. One is the earthing arrangements used. The phono cable that connects to the turntable needs to have an additional earth wire attached.
Most amplifiers and phono preamps will have an earth terminal that takes a spade connector. There is also a similar connector on the turntable. This extra lead is to prevent hum loops.
Another issue is the signal level. The Reloop Turn 2 Turntable has no built-in preamp. Magnetic cartridges have an output of a few millivolts and cannot be connected to a line-level input. As a result, you will need an amplifier with a phono input or a phono preamp.
Records are cut with equalization. This is known as RIAA equalization, this boosts the treble and cuts the bass to prevent overmodulation of the groove. The preamp uses a reverse curve EQ circuit to correct this. The output then has a flat response.
