Description
The Q Acoustics 3020c Speaker has been added to the well-respected 3000 range. It is the second largest in the range. The speaker's performance is remarkable for its size and it sounds bigger than it looks. This stand-mounted speaker features a continuous curved cone bass/mid driver for improved bass quality.
Additionally, the driver integrates more effectively with the tweeter. Lastly, the quality tweeter is hermetically sealed. This reduces interactions and distortion. Moreover, the curvaceous cabinet has point-to-point bracing and no visible fixings. The bracing reduces resonances.
Continuous cone bass/mid-driver
The bass/mid driver in the Q Acoustics 3020c Speaker has properties that combine those of a straight conic cone with those of a flared cone. The design has been extensively researched and has excellent bass along with an enhanced midrange.
Also, the continuous curved cone has improved dispersion and a well-controlled frequency response. Additionally, there are more advantages. The deep bass is boosted and the damping is more effective. This is designed to allow the speaker to be placed closer to a wall.
Hermetically sealed tweeter
The Q Acoustics 3020c Speaker features a domed tweeter that is hermetically sealed. It is also mechanically isolated from the baffle. Consequently, the internal pressure modulations do not cause an issue.
A vented rear chamber also aids with this. The effect is to reduce distortion and to lower the crossover point. This makes for better integration with the bass/midrange unit.
Point-to-point braced cabinet
Point to point bracing is used by Q Acoustics to support the cabinet. The Q Acoustics 3020c Speaker’s bracing joins the parts of the cabinet that are the most resonance-prone. Additionally, the proprietary P2P bracing makes for a very rigid cabinet.
The effect is to sharpen the focus of the stereo imaging creating a more accurate soundstage. Lastly, the curvaceous cabinet has no visible fixings or joints for a contemporary look.
Why stand-mounted speakers?
The Q Acoustics 3020c Speaker is good for small to medium-sized rooms. The design will go with any décor without dominating the room. Moreover, the speaker is small enough to be shelf-mounted.
This speaker has good bass performance however a subwoofer would add more bass extension. There is also a matching centre speaker in the range. As a result, this series of speakers can be used to create a home cinema system.
Are speaker stands needed with smaller speakers?
Notably, The Q Acoustics 3020c Speaker is designed to be stand-mounted. However, they are small enough to be shelf-mounted as well. Notably, in certain cases stands can prevent sound reflections and diffractions.
For example, if the speakers are placed on the same furniture unit as a turntable, feedback can result. Stands can additionally make the bass less boomy. They also isolate the speakers from the floor for better damping.
A choice of amplifiers
There are many amplifiers available Notably, the Q Acoustics 3020c Speaker is a good choice for pairing with streamers containing a built-in amplifier. As mentioned earlier they can also be used with home cinema AV receivers.
