Description
The PulseEight Neo 6A 6x8 Video Matrix is a six-input two-output HDMI and HDbaseT video switcher. This allows for the connection of up to eight display devices. Six via HDbaseT Ethernet connectors and two via HDMI. The HDbaseT connectors are used along with six PoH receivers that can be connected to a display device up to 70 Metres away by using an Ethernet cable.
Lastly, the unit is CEC enabled as a result, for example, your TV remote control can control your Blu-ray player. ThePulseEight Neo 6A 6x8 Video Matrix also includes audio breakout connectors for all inputs. More on what this all means, below. Lastly, this unit replaces the PulseEight Neo 1-2 HDMI Splitter.
About HDMI
The PulseEight Neo 6A 6x8 Video Matrix has six HDMI inputs and two outputs. HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface and was first introduced in 2002. The format is digital and version 1.0 replaced the old analogue Scart connector.
Since then it has been upgraded several times and can now handle resolution of up to 8K at 60hz. HDMI is used to connect source devices such as game consoles, and Blu-ray players to a display device such as a TV or projector.
With the PulseEight Neo 6A 6x8 Video Matrix, any of the six inputs can be fed to any of the eight outputs. As HDMI is a relatively short-range format. Six HDBaseT outputs are provided for feeding to other rooms over an Ethernet cable.
What is HDBaseT?
The method used to connect to other rooms is known as HDBaseT and uses standard Ethernet connectors at one end of the Cat 5e cable. The other end goes into a converter box that converts the signal back into the HDMI format for connecting to a display device.
The cable used is similar to the cable used for home networks. However, the HDBaseT is specifically used for the transmission of ultra-high-definition video, along with digital audio and various communication systems such as consumer IR.
What is HDMI CEC
CEC stands for Consumer Electronics Control and is a method where AV devices can establish two-way communication via an HDMI lead. For example, your TV remote control can control some of the functionality of your Blu-ray player. This reduces the number of remotes needed.
Notably, modern TVs that have CEC installed, will have a source button on the remote that can used to select any source that is connected to the PulseEight Neo 6A 6x8 Video Matrix.
Audio breakout
The PulseEight Neo 6A 6x8 Video Matrix includes audio breakout connectors on all of the inputs. These are both digital and analogue and can be used to feed amplifiers as well as DACs. HDMI supports many audio formats including Dolby Digital, DTD, and DSD. HDMI also has two-way audio capability.
This is known as the Audio Return Channel (ARC). Some display devices may need to send audio back to the source. For example, a TV can send audio back to an AV amplifier for playback, via the HDMI lead.
Web interface, controllability from any device
Rather than use an app the PulseEight Neo 6A 6x8 Video Matrix uses a web interface that can be accessed with any device that has a web browser. You can use your phone, tablet or PC to send and receive information from the Matrix as well as control it.
What is EDID?
Lastly, there is yet another acronym known as EDID. EDID stands for Extended Display Identification Data. This is another two-way protocol that can send information about the display device back to the source. For example, a TV “tells” a Blu-ray player what its native resolution is. Notably, The PulseEight Neo 6A 6x8 Video Matrix passes through this data.
