Description
The Pro-Ject Signature 12.2 Turntable is the flagship model in the range. It features only the best materials and is hand-made. Moreover, there are over 100 CNC machined parts. This reference standard turntable takes two days to assemble.
Additionally, a four-step quality control system is in place to ensure a very high construction standard. Features include a new 3-point pivot tonearm as well as a flywheel-controlled motor drive and a 10 kg. platter. Lastly, the unit can be used with Pro-jects True Balanced phono preamps if an MC cartridge is used.
12”, 3-point pivot tonearm
The S-shaped tonearm fitted to the Pro-Ject Signature 12.2 Turntable has an improved counterweight and anti-skating mechanism. The counterweight has a finer thread to ensure a more accurate tracking weight. Additionally, the motor drive features a flywheel that damps any speed variations for super accurate playback. It also reduces vibration from the motor.
Adaptive anti-skate
The Pro-Ject Signature 12.2 Turntable has adaptive anti-skate. Most records tend to pull the tonearm to the centre of the record. This can result in uneven channel balance, distortion, and uneven groove wear. As a result, anti-skate is provided to apply a counterforce to prevent this.
However, the force is normally of a fixed value. On this flagship turntable, Pro-Ject uses adaptive anti-skate. This compensates for the position of the arm on the record. As a result, playback is optimized for high-end stylus types such as Shibata.
Dual speed and 10kg platter
To further provide accurate speed the platter weighs a massive 10 kg. This gives a solid, high-mass bed for the record. Additionally, the platter is TPE-damped and sits on a magnetic bearing. As a result, the platter has very little friction.
Lastly, the vinyl top provides a good slip-free surface. Speed is controlled by an elegant front-mounted control panel. An ultra-precise DC-driven AC generator drives the quality motor.
Heavy MDF chassis
The chassis of the Pro-Ject Signature 12.2 Turntable is made of dense MDF that resists resonance. The piano black finish features ten layers that give a timeless classic look.
Additionally, the chassis is massive and has rounded edges that are designed to reduce standing waves. Lastly, precision CNC machining ensures there are no empty spaces that could cause resonances.
Spring loaded feet
Due to the weight of the Pro-Ject Signature 12.2 Turntable new spring-loaded feet have been developed. These are stronger than the magnetic types and have a superior decoupling effect. They also have good damping characteristics and conical tips to reduce the contact area.
Lastly, they can easily be adjusted from the top of the chassis.
High-end phono cable
The Pro-Ject Signature 12.2 Turntable includes a high-end 99% oxygen-free copper connecting cable. Notably, the tonearm has a DIN connector that connects to the phono preamp. Hence the cable has a DIN connector on one end and standard phono plugs on the other. The DIN connector is also compatible with Pro-jects True Balanced phono preamps. These require an MC cartridge.
