Description
The Pro-Ject Debut Pro B Turntable has been upgraded with a new balanced MM cartridge. This reasonably priced unit also has many innovations including a fully balanced signal path from the newly developed MM cartridge to the output. There is also a hybrid carbon and aluminium tonearm as well as a synchronous motor with 78RPM capability.
There are many precision-milled aluminium parts. Additionally, the platter has been upgraded with anti-magnetic properties. Lastly, all aspects of the tonearm can be adjusted including the height, VTA, and azimuth.
Pick it PRO balanced cartridge
The B version of the Pro-Ject Debut turntable is now fitted with a balanced MM cartridge. This moving magnet cartridge is the first of its kind and offers a true balanced connection via the three-pin mini XLR socket on the rear. MC cartridges are inherently balanced but this is a first for a MM cartridge.
Quality milled aluminium parts
Quality milled aluminium parts are used by the Pro-Ject Debut Pro B Turntable. Rather than plastics that age, aluminium parts retain their precision shape and are more sustainable. Additionally, they are nickel-plated to resist tarnishing.
Precision tonearm bearing
The bearing that the tonearm sits in is CNC’d from a single block of aluminium. As a result, it has increased rigidity as well as a more accurate finish. Nickel plating also prevents tarnishing and ensures a long life. The bearing offers the tonearm-free and fluid movement with reduced friction.
Accurate Synchronous motor
The Pro-Ject Debut Pro B Turntable is fitted with a precision electronically controlled synchronous motor. This drives the platter and ensures accurate and stable speeds. Notably, the speed is changed by a simple toggle switch. However, there is also a round belt that can be used to make the platter run at 78RPM for playing shellac records
Die-cast anti-magnetic platter
The platter fitted to the Pro-Ject Debut Pro B Turntable has been reworked and precisely balanced. This ensures accurate wobble-free rotation. There is also now an indentation for the record label, as a result, the record sits flat and is well-supported.
Lastly, the aluminium platter is anti-magnetic making it a good choice for moving coil cartridges. There is also a ring of TPE plastic on the base that damps resonances and reduces wow and flutter.
Hybrid carbon-aluminium tonearm
New materials are used for the tonearm on the Pro-Ject Debut Pro B Turntable. An advanced carbon-aluminium sandwich is used to give the arm a high degree of rigidity along with a low mass. The inner aluminium tube acts as a damping agent while the carbon layer adds rigidity.
New tonearm base
The newly designed tonearm base on the Pro-Ject Debut Pro B Turntable allows for adjustment of the azimuth and vertical tracking angle (VTA). The tonearm height can also be adjusted to cater to different cartridges. The vertical tracking angle is the angle at which the stylus touches the record. In other words the horizontal angle of the tonearm compared to the record surface.
What is a fully balanced turntable?
In this case, "balanced" refers to the electrical balance of the signal output. The Pro-Ject Debut Pro B Turntable is rare in that it is electrically balanced from the cartridge to the output. Balanced audio was first developed in the studio as a way of reducing noise on long cable runs or where the signal output was low.
It works by having anti-phase signals. The signals are recombined at the amplifier, which has the effect of cancelling noise, similar to 2-2 being Zero
