Description
The Pro-Ject 6 PerspeX Balanced Superpack Turntable is a high-end turntable with many advanced features. The Superpack version includes extra enhancements. This Ready-to-play unit has a fitted cartridge that is fully balanced. Moreover, the chassis sits on a magnetic field to prevent any parasitic noise.
The carbon tonearm has a massive bearing and a low mass for superb tracking. There is also an adaptive anti-skate and a fully adjustable arm mount. Lastly, for even better noise performance a PSU upgrade is available.
Crystal clear chassis and sound
The Pro-Ject 6 PerspeX Balanced Superpack Turntable features a clear acrylic chassis that sits on three individually adjustable TPE-damped Aluminium cones. The chassis carries the motor and sub-chassis. Moreover, the sub-chassis is made of Corian and is floating on three magnetic fields.
This removes any mechanical connection that could cause parasitic noise. Additionally, the motor runs quiet and drives the platter via a belt. Lastly, the motor is DC-driven and has a highly accurate speed control.
Carbon tonearm for low-mass
A high-end carbon tonearm is fitted to the Pro-Ject 6 PerspeX Balanced Superpack Turntable. This 9” arm has a massive bearing and features an inverted cardanic ABEC 7 quality bearing with 4 stainless steel tips.
This makes the arm very stable with low friction. As a result, there is little drag to compromise the tracking. Additionally, the tonearm base is made of aluminium and can have both the azimuth and VTA adjusted for different cartridges.
Corrective anti-skating system
The antis-skating system fitted to most turntables offers a fixed force. This counters the tendency of the tonearm to pull towards the centre of the record. Without anti-skate one side of the groove would wear more than the other. Moreover, the channel balance would be incorrect.
However, the Pro-Ject 6 PerspeX Balanced Superpack Turntable has a more advanced adaptive system that changes the force depending on the position of the tonearm on the record. This improves the tracking at either extreme.
A True Balanced system
A main issue with turntables is hum pickup from the connecting cable. As a result, Pro-ject has developed a truly balanced connection. Balanced leads are normally used in the studio for microphones to reduce noise pickup. The leads have a “hot” and “cold” wire as well as a common ground.
The connector is usually a 3-pin XLR connector. For the Pro-Ject 6 PerspeX Balanced Superpack Turntable Pro-ject use a special mini-XLR connector that connects to their range of phono-preamps. To create a balanced system a specially designed cartridge is used. The cartridge is the MC3 as supplied with the package.
High-quality phono cable
A high-quality phono cable is supplied with the Pro-Ject 6 PerspeX Balanced Superpack Turntable for standard phono preamps. This requires earthing leads with spade terminals. The grounding arrangement with turntables can vary but most high-end units have separate signal and chassis grounds.
To prevent hum loops Some phono cables only have the shield connected at one end. The shielded end should go to the amplifier and it is usually marked on the cable.
Advanced PSU and an upgrade
The Pro-Ject 6 PerspeX Balanced Superpack Turntable is fitted with a Sophisticated DC/AC power generator. A switch mode supply is used as this is more efficient and generates less heat. Moreover, the PSU is used to create a new AC signal to drive the motor. As a result, a very accurate and clean sine wave is generated for improved speed stability.
However, a PSU upgrade is also available. The Power Box S3 Phono can be connected via a high-grade cable and has sophisticated DC filtration for even better noise performance.
