KEF Q Concerto Meta Speakers (Pair)

The KEF Q Concerto Meta Speakers are a good entry point into the KEF Q Meta series of eight speakers. They are affordable and are inspired by the KEF Concerto of 1969 with all-new technology. These bookshelf three-way speakers feature KEF’s UNI-Q driver as well as an aluminium coned bass unit.

There is an enhanced crossover that ensures an accurate frequency response and The MAT technology used eliminates 99% of the sound that comes from the rear of the drivers. As a result, the sound is natural and clear. Moreover, the Uni-Q driver produces a single-point source to create a wide listening area.

12th generation Uni-Q with MAT™ driver

The Uni-Q driver fitted to the KEF Q Concerto Meta puts the tweeter in the centre of the midrange driver. This provides a wide dispersion for high frequencies. Moreover, the single point source eliminates the single” sweet spot” normally associated with multiway speakers.

As a result, there is a wide listening area. In conventional speakers, Separate tweeter and midrange units can cause the sound from each to arrive at slightly different times. This is known as phase error and can muddy the sound.

Aluminium cone LF driver

The long throw bass driver fitted to the KEF Q Concerto Meta Speakers features an aluminium cone. This material makes them stronger than paper cones and they do not absorb moisture. They can also sound highly detailed. Moreover, the breakup frequency is normally outside the normal human hearing range.

Enhanced crossover

With aluminium coned drivers crossover performance is important and the KEF Q Concerto Meta Speakers have an enhanced design. The signal path is fine-tuned for a clean sound. The crossover splits the audio into three bands and crossover frequencies depend on the range of the drivers.

Normally capacitors and inductors are used to form filters and the capacitors fitted are usually polypropylene types that do not drift in value with time.

What is Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT™)?

The Q range including the KEF Q Concerto Meta Speakers is now fitted with Metamaterial Absorption Technology. MAT uses an advanced material that is made of a maze-like structure. The structure absorbs sound from the rear of the driver. As a result, the performance is more natural and refined. MAT’s tuned material absorbs 90% of the sound as opposed to 60% with other damping methods.

Magnetic grilles

The KEF Q Concerto Meta comes with magnetic grilles and there is an optional floor stand. Three beautiful finishes are available. Satin Black, Satin White, and Walnut finishes. The cabinets are well braced and resonance-free.
