Description

English Electric 8switch Audio Grade Ethernet Switch is designed to improve digital signals improving streamed music quality by minimising noise and interference. This marks the brand's entry into hi-fi electronics after being relaunched by the Chord Company.

Core Technologies

The 8-port gigabit-streaming switch has been developed with advanced technologies at its core. It is powered by an optimised TCXO for a highly accurate network signal transmission, features a low noise power supply and has a clock generation circuit with EMI absorber for further noise prevention.

Improved Music Quality

The 8switch is designed to reduce data issues that can arise when playing high-res audio files. It does this through use of low and high electrical noise isolation. 

8 Ports

English Electric 8switch has 8 ports so you can connect to more complex streaming setups and experience vast improvements in your whole audio set-up.

Enclosure and Design

Constructed using machined Aluminium, the 8switch housing offers protection from unwanted acoustic and electronic noise. It has a low-key LED display on the front panel and is very power efficient.

The power adaptor is designed to prevent noise and interference in the mains power supply from affecting the negative signals. Supplied with a 0.75mm Chord C stream cable.

Hearing is believing
Early days with this product but first impressions are very positive. The sound is now “calmer” you get the impression the performers have more time and space. The entire frequency range is sharper but without being brittle. There’s just a rightness with the music, I am drawn in to the music, more engaged and that is what the listener is always striving for. I think the English Electric 8Switch is a keeper!

I purchased the English Electric 8Switch as I read so many positive reviews on it. I was quite sceptical that it would even do anything to improve the SQ. Wow I was totally wrong. The imaging, tonal quality and sound stage to name but a few improvments. I'm totally gob smacked.

Something missed
This switch comes with a loose 75cm Chord C-stream ethernet cable and none of information informs you that this is directional. It has black marks in the small indentations on one end of the cable which signifies that the signal should flow from this end (I only found this out when buying an additional C-steam cable).
I was pleasantly surprised to hear internet streamed Radio 3 sound more natural and engaging once the switch was installed.

I was sceptical about this one, but can’t deny there is a definite improvement in the presentation of music with this in the system. The soundstage is that much clearer and more open and bass is more defined. I can give this a whole hearted recommendation.

Increased detail and clarity with hi-res music
It would be easy to dismiss the 8switch as over-priced. It's undeniably expensive for a network switch. On the other hand, if you've already invested in something like a mains power conditioner, you'll know the difference this kind of peripheral can make to a high end audio system. Not transformative perhaps, but offering significant incremental improvements that allow every element in the hifi chain to perform at its best. And if you're going to the trouble of optimising your power supply, then why not do the same for your ethernet signal? Dropping the 8switch into my Naim-based music system, I'm hearing increased detail and definition, an increased sense of clarity and separation. It's an incremental but clearly audible improvement. Would I recommend the 8switch for an entry level system? Of course not. There are other upgrades you would make first. But in a high end system, where the 8switch corresponds to perhaps 5% of the total system value, it makes perfect sense as a way of optimising that level of investment. Highly recommended in the right system.
