Description
The Wharfedale EVO 5.2 Speakers (Pair) embody the next generation of mid-tier loudspeakers from Britain’s most renowned audio brand. As the successor to the award-winning EVO 4.2, the EVO 5.2 represents a significant step forward in engineering, aesthetics, and acoustic performance.
Standing at the pinnacle of the standmount lineup in the new EVO 5 Series, these speakers are designed for discerning listeners who demand premium sound without the premium price tag. With thoughtful upgrades throughout—from a more refined cabinet to improved driver technology—EVO 5.2 balances technical precision with expressive musicality, reaffirming Wharfedale’s commitment to bringing high-end innovation to more accessible price points.
Upgraded AMT Tweeter for Ultra-Precise Treble
At the heart of the Wharfedale EVO 5.2’s high-frequency delivery is a revised AMT (Air Motion Transformer) tweeter, now larger at 35x70mm compared to its predecessor. This innovative driver design offers significant advantages over traditional dome tweeters, delivering faster transient response and lower distortion due to its pleated diaphragm construction.
This ultra-thin diaphragm, activated by a powerful magnetic field, “squeezes” air through its folds to produce sound with exceptional clarity and speed. The result is high-frequency performance that’s crisp, controlled, and expansive—capable of revealing fine details in recordings without sounding analytical or fatiguing. SilentWeave™, Wharfedale’s proprietary damping material, is also added to reduce internal reflections and maintain a smooth treble response.
Midrange Clarity with ResoFrame™ and SilentWeave™
The EVO 5.2 features a dedicated 50mm fabric dome midrange driver, carefully matched to the tweeter in both efficiency and dispersion. This dome is vented into a sculpted rear chamber, allowing it to handle an impressive frequency range from 800Hz to 5kHz—ideal for reproducing vocals, instruments, and musical nuance.
New materials and structures enhance its performance: the inclusion of SilentWeave behind the diaphragm and a cog-shaped ResoFrame™ elastomer structure in the front panel work together to absorb unwanted resonance and reduce coloration. The result is a midrange that sounds open, lifelike, and emotionally engaging, providing a beautifully integrated bridge between the highs and lows.
Powerful Bass Performance with Kevlar Drivers
To complement its articulate treble and revealing midrange, the Wharfedale EVO 5.2 incorporates a 150mm woven Kevlar cone bass driver. Borrowing motor system technologies from the flagship Elysian models, this low-distortion driver is engineered to deliver extended, authoritative bass and a naturally warm lower midrange.
A low-loss rubber surround and a new ResoSeal™ damping ring at the cone’s edge improve transient response and reduce resonance for cleaner low-end output. Whether you're listening to an intimate jazz trio or a cinematic film score, the EVO 5.2’s bass reproduction feels grounded, textured, and deeply satisfying—without overpowering or muddying the overall sound signature.
Advanced Crossover and Acoustic Design
Internally, the EVO 5.2 benefits from a carefully re-engineered crossover network, developed using a mix of computer modelling and real-world tuning. High-grade polypropylene capacitors and air-core inductors are used in the mid and treble circuits for maximum clarity, while silicon-iron inductors in the bass section help preserve signal integrity. This precise design ensures phase coherence and smooth integration across the driver array.
Additionally, the Wharfedale EVO 5.2 utilises the brand’s updated SLPP (Slot Loaded Profiled Port) system. Vented discreetly through the base of the speaker in three directions, this clever design minimises turbulence and allows for deep, articulate bass regardless of placement—ideal for rooms where flexibility is key.
Sleek, Modern Cabinetry with Functional Enhancements
The Wharfedale EVO 5.2 Speakers (Pair) are not just a sonic upgrade—they also reflect an aesthetic evolution. Compared to the EVO 4.2, the cabinet dimensions are slightly larger, increasing internal volume to enhance low-frequency output and improve soundstage depth. Multi-layer wood construction and curved edges reduce panel resonance and improve driver dispersion, while a hybrid wood-metal plinth at the base houses the slot port and improves structural rigidity.
New finish options include a sophisticated matt black, sleek matt white, timeless walnut wood veneer, and the elegant Lunar Grey. This combination of design precision and visual elegance ensures that the EVO 5.2 will complement any modern interior while delivering truly immersive sound.
