Description
The KEF KC92 Subwoofer is the flagship model in the KEF subwoofer range. Kef has over sixty years of experience building high-performing speakers. As a result, the KEF KC92 Subwoofer creates a visceral cinema experience in your home to get to the heart of the action for movies and gaming.
Also, this subwoofer can add a reel punch to music. Lastly, the unit is relatively compact and a wireless connection kit is available to remove the need for a connecting lead. 1000 Watts of Class D amplification leads to Earth-shaking bass and the DSP engine controls everything.
Twin 9” drivers
Two 9” force-canceling drivers feature in the KEF KC92 Subwoofer. Force canceling uses two drivers that are placed back-to-back and fire in opposite directions. This has the effect of “canceling” any vibrations. As a result, the bass sounds clearer. It also tends to give a more even bass response. The cabinet features a solid low resonance design.
1000 Watts of amplification
The KEF KC92 Subwoofer has a powerful 1000 Watts of power for Earth shaking bass. The amplifier is a Class D design that has close to 90% efficiency. Class D creates less heat than Class A/B units and can be placed in a confined space such as a speakers cabinet. It also needs less power to operate.
The output with a Class D system consists of a series of high-frequency pulses. The pulses are modulated so that a higher audio output causes the pulses to be closer together. A high pass filter is then used to recover the music, just before the speaker output. As a result, the audio is always in the digital domain for less noise.
KEF music integrity engine
The KEF music integrity engine, provided with the KEF KC92 Subwoofer, is a set of Digital Signal processing algorithms that optimize the sound. This leads to a perfectly timed performance as well as a tighter sound. There is also intelligent bass extension and settings for placing the subwoofer against a wall, in the corner, or in a smaller room.
Multiple power modes
The KEF KC92 Subwoofer has multiple power modes for maximum versatility. The unit can be left always on or it can be set to auto-on when a source is detected. It also has a 12V trigger input so that it can be switched on by the main amplifier.
Connecting a subwoofer
Subwoofers can be connected in many ways. The KEF KC92 Subwoofer has a line-level input. Some budget models allow for the connection of speaker-level outputs from an amplifier. However, line-level inputs are intended to be driven by the subwoofer output from an AV receiver.
Some high-end AV amplifiers also feature an LFE channel. LFE stands for Low Frequency Effects and the signal is present in some movies and games. This output can be connected to another subwoofer. A wireless conversion kit is also available that can be used to connect to the subwoofer without needing trailing cables.
